PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Crewe Alexandra v Swindon

Follow along with live updates as Jody Morris speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town's clash with Crewe Alexandra. Total Sports' Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

11:03AM

That is all from today.

11:03AM

I asked Morris if the budget had been set yet and about Conor Brann:

  • Those discussions are still ongoing. [Do you know the budget yet?] No.
  • Brann is a longer term project for us and we don't think he is quite ready to play a game yet.
10:59AM

Jody Morris on Jephcott and Tomlinson:

Jephcott is one you would consider. Where that would be as far as finances I am not sure, but you would look at it if he was available. Regarding targets in those positions we have to wait and see. I have made it clear I like Tomlinson, but I am not sure finances are in our league to do that. I am saying that because of the numbers I was told. Things can change and I told Tomlinson and his agent.

10:57AM

Jody Morris on Crewe's pitch:

I think we are always touching on taking care of touches. We take the pitches game by game and you guys sometimes let me know about it and we can then talk about it as we haven't always seen it on film as we watched older games. You guys come in handy every now and then. We always talk about it, games like Salford we knew going into it and we have done well on poor pitches before. These things can always be the case and you have to deal with it.

10:55AM

Jody Morris on travelling on the day:

Those arrangements were in place before I got here. I can only imagine it is one reason. It must be to save money, but that was done before I was here. The club have to do things at times to save money and I get that. Performance-wise it is not ideal, but we did that at Wimbledon and produced.

You get a chance to stretch your legs on the way, but the players will have to get their heads around it.

10:53AM

Jody Morris on Crewe:

It will be a different challenge to Stevenage, but we haven't always performed against lower opposition. Travelling on the day isn't the best prep, but we will have to deal with that. We lost in the week but we are getting more positives and hopefully we can continue to build on that.

10:52AM

Jody Morris on Aguiar:

I will pick the squad that I feel is capable of getting the result. Aguiar hasn't had many minutes and I said to him early it would benefit him to go out on loan, I don't know who the takers were. He is a very good technical player and does good stuff in training unopposed, but he is behind others at the moment.

I was a little bit gutted we didn't get the chance to use Brown at Wimbledon because of the bookings, but taking care of the result was more important. Getting the chance to give a taste of first team football is good and I would have done that at Wimbledon and we will see if we can against Crewe.

10:50AM

Jody Morris on lessons from Stevenage:

I wouldn't take one game as a sign of where we are for next year as thing can change quickly. I was pleased with our performances as we did well physically. The group can be more balanced, it can have more experience as when you do that you can bring on the youngsters and enhance their opportunities to show what they have. We haven't always dealt well with teams playing direct and if you have games when you can combat that in different way like we did against Stevenage. But we have been found wanting in that way before. Ultimately no matter what style you want, you need that balance. You can't have all big, old, lumps and you can't have all young, small lads. The balance gives you the best chance to display what everyone can do.

10:47AM

Jody Morris on Cain and Shade:

They need to do the same as anyone. If you play wide the you have to be reliable, energetic, creating chances, pressing from the front, and trying to open teams up through skill and physicality. What I want from the wide players is that stuff. Cain has done alright in midfield of late, we have had chats about him letting games pass him by and he hasn't done enough, but I have been pleased with him. He only came off as we were changing things. I have spoken to Shade more than many of the players trying to get the most out of him. He is up against others who have been performing.

10:45AM

Jody Morris on McEachran's role:

We were going to play a 2 and McEachran started as a 10 and played there for me loads of times before. He is capable of playing everywhere in midfield, so it is nothing too specific, but if you are doing a 2 and a 1 then it lends itself to McEachran being higher. For those games is suited things.

I think we always want more creativity. I think we have players who are capable of opening up a defence and McEachran hasn't done that as much as his ability could allow. When you play deeper, keeping the game ticking is more important then when you play higher, so if he plays higher then he will have the chance to create more. Playing as a 10 is not bad if you can open up defences and look to press high up the pitch.

10:42AM

Jody Morris on injuries:

Williams is a no, it is looking likely anyway. He will be on the grass today, but Saturday will be too early. Brewitt is not available to train and will be out too. We don't know the extent of that one yet.

10:41AM

We are go now

10:38AM

I'm back, Press Conference 2: Electric Boogaloo should be exciting.

10:23AM

A minor delay has turned into 10.40, so let's all check back in a bit.

10:21AM

As I put that, I was messaged to say there would be a slight delay. Cruel irony.

10:20AM

We are just waiting to start now, shouldn't be long.

10:14AM

Crewe are in some rather poor form to end a largely forgettable season, losing three of their last four. However, when they came to the County Ground back in November they put on one of the great 'housery performances of our time. The march was led by Dan Agyei who scored a penalty and then proceeded to do the most shameless time wasting you will ever see and I have to say it was a joy to see a master at work.

10:11AM

Good morning everyone. Swindon's unbeaten run is over, but there were still positive signs to take from the Stevenage match. Town now end their season against two other side with nothing to play for in Crewe Alexandra and Crawley Town.
