PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: AFC Wimbledon v Swindon

Follow along with live updates as Jody Morris speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town's clash with AFC Wimbledon. Total Sports' Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

11:13AM

That is all from today, let's see if Swindon can keep it up this weekend.

11:12AM

I asked Morris about the Clayton-Brewitt double axis and Brewitt's future:

  • They have done very well and we seem more solid, but it would be wrong to think it is all solved
  • He has a clause that if he plays a certain number of games he gets extended, and he is close to that
11:05AM

Jody Morris on Lewis Ward:

There are talks about what we are doing in goal next year. We are not to the bottom of that, so we don't know yet. There is a chance Ward will be involved, but when there are things going on then you don't know. I have a lot of time for Ward, he trains properly and is good around the lads, but we need to see what we can do. And we are working closely with Mildenhall to see what we need.

11:04AM

Jody Morris on character:

That is where you have to speak to all the people you know in the game and get opinions on people from people you respect. Any successful team is riddled with good characters. I am not saying everyone has to get on and you can't have selfish players. Whatever people's motivation is, doesn't matter as long as they are doing what is right. If you a striker and you want to do everything to make sure you get your goals so you can play higher, as long as you have that motivation and you are being a good team mate then that is fine. As long as the balance of the group is good then that is important. Whenever you sign someone, if you can get information on their character then that is really important as it doesn't take much to spoil a group.

11:00AM

Jody Morris on his involvement in recruitment:

There is a recruitment team in place. There are quite a lot of players in this league I don't know personally, so if those players are suggested I have to brush up. The recruitment side should be working 24/7 and if we are going to go for players we have to do our due diligence to know as much as we can about people. I am involved for sure, but getting across all players on our list is difficult and that is why we have a recruitment department.

10:58AM

Jody Morris on being on the beach:

I have played in teams where players view there is nothing to play for. I wasn't one of those players. Any time you come to train you should see how much you can get out of it. For a game every time you pull on a Swindon shirt you should put everything in. We are all playing for our futures. None of us are sitting here and thinking we have been consistent enough, so it is a chance for us to build on what we have done. I think there is always an opportunity to impress and build on positive signs and so you are on guard for dropping your levels, which we have done too many times. We are fully focused on trying to replicate the level of performance defensively from the last few games and try and build in an attacking sense.

10:56AM

Jody Morris on Wimbledon:

I couldn't care less about the run other teams are on. That has no impact on how we prepare as the difference in results between teams in opposite positions don't always match. People will look at Bradford and think what a great performance, but we have played better and got nothing. I want to build a level of consistency which we haven't had and it is a chance for the players to build on the last two games.

10:54AM

Jody Morris on his vision for the squad:

I have my views on how I think the group can be more balanced from a tactical and experience aspect which I believe will give us the best opportunity to win football games. Then it is how we can achieve that and there are many things which go into that.

10:53AM

Jody Morris on contracts:

There are conversations that need to be going on, but they haven't started yet. For me there are quite a few things that need to be discussed at the football club to see what we can do and what the budgets are.

Yeah [I don't know what resources I have].

I believe the club have an option on Lavinier and he is here next year. I think a lot of him and he might be one of the unlucky ones for game time. He is a good pro and he is really good around the group, so even though he will be disappointed to not be playing he will still be good. Whenever he comes on he is ready and that is invaluable.

10:50AM

Jody Morris on Bradford:

It was pleasing to end the streak. I thought we performed well, particularly in the second half and deserved it. It was good to see them go toe-to-toe with a good team. You could see what Bradford can do and cause problems, but when you play teams who believe in themselves they can use you more opportunities. If you compare them and Barrow, they were different in how they approached it.

It is pleasing to get back-to-back clean sheets. I think we were cheap in midfield too much. Attacking-wise the work rate and how we worked their back line was good. Loads to improve on, but it is nice to limit a good team to minimal chances. We defended well all over the pitch. I have felt there were positives to take when we didn't get anything, so as pleased as I am, I am not getting carried away.

10:47AM

Jody Morris on injuries:

Ok I think. We have to assess McEachran. We need to see how FBT recovers today. He felt a little bit of fatigue in his quad that could have been more, so we will see how he does. Obviously Tomlinson is longer.

10:46AM

We are in!

10:44AM

I spoke too soon, I apologies for overestimating the time keeping skills of those at Swindon.

10:38AM

Just waiting for the call to start now and we should be underway shortly.

10:33AM

All of a sudden Swindon look like the veritable form side in a match-up, with Wimbledon having not won for four games. The Dons have also shared similar struggles in holding on to leads late in games, everyone will remember their memorable Easter weekend in which they led both games after 88 minutes before taking one point from the games. So if you are going this weekend then maybe don't leave early as both teams will do their best to lose it late on.

10:28AM

Good morning everyone. It feels a bit strange to have to put a positive spin on one of these intros, but Swindon actually won a game. A well deserved victory over Bradford followed a draw against Barrow and things feel slightly less desperate. That makes it two games without a banner outside the County Ground, so things must be progressing at least somewhat.
