Your Total Guide To sport

PLAYER RATINGS: Swindon (1) Tranmere Rovers (1)

Swindon Town were much improved in the second half after a sloppy opening period, but were only able to draw against Tranmere Rovers. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam reviews the player’s performances.

Ratings scale: 10- won the game on their own, 9- unplayable, 8- outstanding, 7- very good, 6- good, 5- solid, 4- disappointing, 3- awful, 2- woeful, 1- frequent major errors

GK: Sol Brynn – 6

Despite a first half in which Swindon’s defence struggled to cope with Tranmere, Brynn was not called into action all that often, but as per usual he was there when required. His late save from point-blank range from Kane Hemmings saved Town.

RCB: Ciaran Brennan – 5

Brennan was generally solid. However, Josh Hawkes was able to run off the back of him for Tranmere’s goal, aside from this I don’t remember any errors. He also had no real highlight moments, which is generally a theme of his performances. For a defender that is generally a positive.

CB: Cian Harries – 6

A first league start of the season and Harries seemed to adapt quickly. When I have seen him before, he always looked most comfortable in the middle of a back three where he isn’t asked to move into uncomfortable areas. He has the kind of passing range which allows Swindon to play in a back three.

LCB: Frazer Blake-Tracy – 6

When playing as a back three, it is very important for at least one of the centre backs to be happy dribbling out from the back and Blake-Tracy did this well. There were a few times where he underlapped into good areas, but unfortunately nothing really came from them.

RWB: Remeao Hutton – 8

I have no idea how you can watch this game and not have Hutton as man of the match. Swindon were poor in the first half with the exception of Hutton. He provided so much thrust and danger up that right flank all game and is quickly becoming one of the league’s best full-backs.

CM: Ben Gladwin – 4

This is not something that can be said all too often about Gladwin this season, but he was anonymous. With the exception of a few nice set piece deliveries, he just wasn’t involved. His instructions were obviously to stay higher up in build-up, but this just took away from all the good work he has done this season.

CM: Saidou Khan – 4

His decision making really let him down. There are times when he gets that spin so right and it looks great, but more often than not he chose the wrong times to do it and conceded possession. Both of Tranmere’s best chances in the first half came from him being caught out and that isn’t something that can happen when he plays as the holder.

CM: Ronan Darcy – 5

Much like Gladwin, he just was not in the game first half. He improved after half time and we saw more of what makes Darcy great, his energy and his ability to find space and exploit it.

LWB: Ellis Iandolo – 3

He looked to be trying too hard out there. Almost every time he had the ball, he held onto it for too long and either took all of the momentum out of a move or gave the ball away. He is still working his way back into sharpness and that decision making will come back with it.

ST: Jacob Wakeling – 7

Very well taken goal and the same can be said for the offside goal as well. After the first 20 minutes when Luke Jephcott and he seemed to be playing each other’s role as he dropped off and Jephcott went in behind, they sorted it out and Swindon looked better for it.

ST: Luke Jephcott – 6

I think Town’s general sluggishness meant his dropping off was less effective as they never really exploited the spaces it created. He didn’t get the moments in possession, but his work rate out of possession was very impressive as he had to chase after Ethan Bristow a number of times.

Subs

Marcel Lavinier – 5

He never really managed to get into a good crossing position, but he was smart with his passing and always kept the attacks flowing. His cameo wasn’t exactly game changing, but he still did well with his opportunity.

Louis Reed – N/A

He wasn’t on the pitch long enough for me to give him a rating, but that free-kick deserved to go in.

Morgan Roberts – N/A
