PLAYER RATINGS: Swindon (0) Doncaster Rovers (2)

Swindon Town failed to turn up as they fell to their third defeat of the year, 2-0 against Doncaster Rovers. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam reviews the players individual performances.

Ratings scale: 10- won the game on their own, 9- unplayable, 8- outstanding, 7- very good, 6- good, 5- solid, 4- disappointing, 3- awful, 2- woeful, 1- frequent major errors

GK: Sol Brynn – 4

I think that ideally you would want Brynn to save one if not both of the Doncaster goals, but they were a pair of good finishes from Luke Molyneux. The ‘keeper did make some good saves at 0-0, but it is generally a rare occurrence that he can even be remotely culpable for goals Swindon concede.

RB: Remeao Hutton – 5

A very quiet performance from Hutton. It felt like he was being instructed to not to get forwards as often, which if true is an absolutely bizarre choice from Jody Morris. When he did get forward he played one reasonable cross, but the man who is usually Town’s most dangerous player was very subdued.

CB: Frazer Blake-Tracy – 5

It was a surprisingly hesitant performance from Blake-Tracy. He did well to stop Doncaster when they were two-on-one in the first half, but was too often backing off and ceding space to the Rovers attackers.

CB: Tom Clayton – 4

Clayton looked like he had never been injured when he came on against Newport, but he looked an awful lot rustier on Saturday. A lot of his passes were behind his teammates, which is very uncharacteristic for him. Then he gave Molyneux far too much space to come inside and get a shot off for the opener.

LB: Ellis Iandolo – 3

Swindon need Joe Tomlinson and Marcel Lavinier back as soon as possible. Iandolo has struggled a lot when playing left-back this season and being in a match-up against Doncaster’s best player in Molyneux went as you might expect. It felt like almost all of the away side’s play came down the right and Iandolo enjoyed a torrid time.

CM: Dylan Kadji – 6

In my opinion Kadji was man of the match, which was a very low bar admittedly, he was the only player who consistently drove Swindon up the pitch. His passing was somewhat spotty, but he was able to turn and dribble forward on multiple occasions. So far, he has looked like a good signing.

CM: Jake Cain – 5

This felt like a bit of a performance of two halves for Cain. Doncaster’s press unsettled him during the first half, and it led to a few passes going awry. His performance flipped when he stepped up to take that free kick in stoppage time and he looked to gain confidence and he played very well after that.

RW: Jacob Wakeling – 4

He has become the League Two Jack Grealish as he seems to have become very good at winning fouls. However, other than winning free-kicks he was not making anything else happen in attack.

CAM: Ronan Darcy – 4

Darcy tries very hard and runs around a lot, but it is rare that something comes of it. He played a few quick passes that saw very brief moments of a tempo higher than first gear. However, if you are playing as the number ten then it should not be difficult to remember something you created.

LW: Jonny Williams – 5

He had Swindon’s only shot on target, the fact it was from 35 yards shows the bigger problem. That fantastic shot and when he got in behind the Doncaster midfield and laid the ball out to Wakeling meant that he was involved in Town’s best two moments from open play. But that once again shows the wider problems of the performance.

ST: Charlie Austin – 4

This is by no means Austin’s fault as he had no service, but he had next to no impact on the game. In his first four games Austin has showed that when there are chances to be had then he will score them, and if not then he is a non-factor.

Subs:

Luke Jephcott – N/A

Ciaran Brennan – N/A

Abu Kanu -N/A

I have no ratings for the subs as they weren’t on the pitch long enough, I just wanted to point out that all of them were very strange decisions and they all came on too late in a game Swindon clearly weren’t performing in. He is new in the job, but I think more questions deserve being asked of Morris than have been so far.
