New Swindon Town manager will decide the fate of Tom Smith and Jake Evans

Swindon Town chairman Lee Power will allow the next manager of the club to decide the fate of out of contract duo Tom Smith and Jake Evans.

Smith and Evans, both 19, are the only two members of the squad who the club have not clarified on what they are going to do with their contract.

Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill, Jamie Sendles-White, Brad Barry, Jordan Stewart and Anton Rodgers have all been released from the club while Nathan Thompson, Raphael Rossi-Branco, Yaser Kasim, Jon Obika, Jermaine Hylton have all been offered new deals.

Every other player remains contracted.

Regarding the five that have been offered new terms, Power said: "I didn't want the new manager to come in and saying he would have liked to have kept those players, so what we've done is we've kept our options open and made offers for those players.

"They're in their right to turn those offers down and move on to pastures new but as a football club we just needed to protect ourselves and make those offers to those lads and see where that takes us."

On Smith and Evans, Power continued: "I think, again, it will be for the new manager to come in and deal with. They're both good, young players and I'm sure they'll both be assets that the manager will want to keep."

Power also spoke about whether he will be carry on with the heavy usage of loans that the club has seen since he became chairman.

Chelsea, in particular, last season had a heavy link with Swindon, as three players - Charlie Colkett, Fankaty Dabo and Islam Feruz all signed on loan in January.

"I don't know (if Chelsea will loan to League Two)", Power said.

"We're going to go in a completely different direction next year. Where we were as a football club, we needed to try and find these golden nuggets to keep the club above water.

"It's a different remit this year. It's about getting the football club back into League One, by hook or by crook or whatever way we need to do it.

"If the manager wants to use the loan market, that will be his prerogative - where he uses it and who we uses will be up to him.

"He will have 100 per cent control and influence and he will do as he sees fit."
