Mathieu Baudry signs one-year extension at Swindon Town

Mathieu Baudry has reversed on his retirement to sign a one-year contract extension at Swindon Town and become the first player to commit his future to the club since Scott Lindsey was unveiled as the new Head Coach.

The new deal keeps the Frenchman at the County Ground until the end of the 2022/23 League Two season.

Baudry was largely kept out of the side for long stints last season under Ben Garner but revived his career with a string of hugely impressive performances that saw him become the rock at the heart of Swindon's defence on their way to the playoffs.

The veteran defender made 17 appearances for Town last season, and scored his first goal for the club during April's 3-0 away victory over Hartlepool United.

The 34-year-old has made 63 appearances since arriving at the County Ground in 2019 and has featured under every manager during that time.

Speaking to the club’s Media Team, Baudry said the appointment of new First-Team Head Coach, Scott Lindsey, played a key role in his decision to prolong his stay at SN1.

“I’m delighted to be staying at this great club for another season, and Scott stepping up as Head Coach made my decision a lot easier. I’ve loved working with him during my time here and many won’t realise just how much of an important role he played in us reaching the play-offs last season.

“Having that continuity with Scott in charge is vital. I’m really excited to go again and want to do things right, and hope I can help take this club back to where it belongs.”

Town Technical Director, Sandro Di Michele, said: “Mathieu is a key figure at this football club and I’m incredibly excited he’s chosen to continue his journey with us for another season. It was really important for everyone at the club he stayed to help drive us forward.”

Newly-appointed First-Team Head Coach, Scott Lindsey, added: “I’m delighted Mathieu has agreed to stay with us for another year and he’ll play an integral part in what we are trying to achieve here.

“The personality, passion and experience he brings to the dressing room and out on the pitch is invaluable.

“He also has great leadership qualities too, so it was really important we did all we could keep him here.”
