HALF-TIME: Swindon Town 3-0 Rochdale

3:45PM

44' It might've looked an easy finish but that was a goal of his own making from Smith. He made a sprint from the halfway line as soon as he saw the keeper pass the ball and intercepted well to leave himself with an easy finish. Great reading of the game.

40' GOAL SWINDON

Matt Smith picks up a loose pass from the Rochdale keeper and passes the ball calmly into the bottom left corner.

3-0

3:34PM

32' GOAL SWINDON

It's GRANT who heads in from a Jaiyesimi cross. Who would've backed him to pop up with a goal. Get in!

3:31PM

30' Rob Hunt rises highest in the box to deflect a good cross in from Dooley behind for a corner. The eventual corner is headed wide by McShane.

1-0

3:29PM

26' Jaiyesimi wins a corner for Swindon after his curling effort from the left is deflected behind. Swindon take it short but the eventual cross is cleared by Rochdale.

1-0

3:26PM

1-0

3:20PM

20' Jaiyesimi picks out Payne with a great cut-back to the edge of the box. Payne has time but he scuffs his effort and pulls the shot wide. Good play from Swindon.

1-0

3:18PM

18' Jonny Smith creates space down the right-hand side but his cross into the box is poor and goes behind for a goal-kick.

1-0

3:14PM

13' Over ten minutes gone in this match. Swindon lead thanks to a Tyler Smith goal and haven't looked back since. Fluid attacking play has seen the Robins threaten when going forward but they must be careful at the back.

1-0

3:11PM

10' Matt Smith puts Swindon under unnecessary pressure after his touch on the edge of the Swindon box brings unwelcome pressure. He almost loses it to Newby but a tangle of legs sees a foul given in Swindon's favour.

3:07PM

7' Jack Payne shoots wide from the edge of the box as Swindon look to build on their opening goal.

Our prediction: 2-1

2:49PM

So Swindon come into the new season as League Two Champions following a brilliant 19/20 season that was unfortunately cut short due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Swindon have lost their main strike force with Anderson, Doyle, and Yates all leaving the club over the window. But Richie Wellens has reinforced heavily with a mixture of loan and permanent deals.

2:38PM

And now the Rochdale line-up for today's season-opening game.

  1. G Bazuno, 2. R Mclaughlin, 5. P Mcshane, 6. E O'Connell, 7. S Dooley, 8. A Morley, 10. A Newby, 13. J Keohane, 14. O Rathbone, 16. M Done, 21. M Lund.
2:30PM
