MATCH REPORT Swindon Town (3) v (1) Crewe Alexandra

SWINDON TOWN ran out 3-1 winners in a crucial promotion clash against Crewe Alexandra. An own-goal put Town ahead, and then second-half strikes from Jerry Yates and Danny Rose cancelled out Chuma Anene's equaliser. Total Sport Swindon's Rajan Hothi gives his report from SN1.

Swindon were forced into two changes from the team that drew against Bradford last time out with Michael Doughty and Tom Broadbent replacing the suspended Jordan Lyden and injured Zeki Fryers.

The first chance fell to the visitors with Chuma Anene almost finding Paul Green in the box, who would've had a one-on-one, but Doughty's block went straight down the throat Steven Benda.

Benda was called into action just a minute later as the German was forced to dive low and make a good stop from Callum Ainley's long-range effort.

Down the other end, excellent work from Diallang Jaiyesimi saw his inviting cross find Rob Hunt, but the full-back had his effort comfortably saved by Will Jaaskelainen at the back post.

Another half-chance fell the way of Crewe as Kirk picked out Perry Ng, but Alex's captain could only hit over in a crowded box.

Crewe were all over Town for the first 20 minutes, and Ng had a better chance to open the scoring soon after. The right-back did well to get past a couple of Town defenders but had his shot well saved by Benda.

Swindon were struggling to get going in the windy conditions as Crewe adjusted better to the elements and looked threatening on every break, but Town took the lead against the run of play.

A loose ball fell into the path of Hunt, and his strike from the edge of the box took a big deflection off Ryan Wintle to put Swindon 1-0 up after 32 minutes.

The goal sprung the home fans into voice, and Caddis almost doubled the hosts lead two minutes after the goal. His corner had Jaaskelainen scrambling to palm the ball over the bar.

Crewe looked stunned following the goal, and Swindon started to play their natural game a bit more. Doughty's clever ball found Yates who had his weak effort saved, before Woolery headed wide just seconds later from Yates' cross.

Swindon went into the half-time interval 1-0 up, but were on the back-foot for a majority of the half with Town owing the lead to Benda who had made several key stops to keep Crewe at bay.

A well-worked corner routine from Swindon saw them have the first chance of the second-half, but Jaiyesimi could only shoot over.

However, Crewe grabbed a deserved equaliser just after the hour-mark. Good work from Kirk saw him beat Caddis, and deliver a  low cross which was stabbed home at close-range by Anene to restore parity.

Just as Crewe were starting to dominate again, Swindon hit back to regain the lead after 68 minutes. Rob Hunt's ball fell into the path of Jerry Yates and his powerful effort gave Jaaskelainen no chance to put Town back in front.

Three minutes later, Swindon grabbed a third courtesy of Danny Rose. Crewe failed to clear their lines after the ball crashed against the bar, and Rose was on hand to slam home into an empty net as Crewe looked dazed.

Crewe didn't threaten after the third, and Swindon held on for a crucial three points to stay top of League Two.
