Ed Brand thinks the confidence gained against Bradford could be a turning point for Swindon

Ed Brand thinks that the belief Swindon will take from their win 1-0 over Bradford could be a turning point for the team. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to the assistant head coach after the match.

Jonny Williams nodded home his tenth of the season to put an end to Swindon’s nine-match winless run nine minutes from time.

Brand said it had felt like an even longer wait than the 265 minutes it had been since Swindon’s last goal late on against Mansfield Town.

He said: “It felt more like double the 265 minutes since we last scored, 530 or whatever that would be.

“I think when you have been around football for long enough, you know that you are going to go through difficult patches of form.

“I am a big believer that you make your own luck and if you keep doing the right things and believing in the right ideas and persisting with the right way to do things then eventually things will even themselves out and you get things that go your way.

“Hopefully that goal can be the catalyst for us scoring more goals because we have been creating chances.

“That is the main thing that you keep creating chances and we did that tonight and there were opportunities for us to score three or four goals.

“People put a high value on luck in football, but confidence is a major factor and the confidence these boys will take from tonight cannot be underestimated and I think they really deserve it for how they played.”

Brand was pleased with the way Swindon controlled the game against a side in Bradford City, who are challenging for automatic promotion.

He said: “We put stats up before the game of how we had done against teams in the play-off positions and automatic promotion places.

“You think about some of the games, like against Leyton Orient and other times we have come up against teams who are having a good season and we have more than gone toe-to-toe with them.

“We probably haven’t got what we deserved from those games and so to come out and play like we did in the second half and to get a win against a very very good Bradford team, it makes it even more pleasing.

“The gaffer [Jody Morris] spoke to them at half-time and just said that we’ve got to make better decisions and not be afraid to mix the game up a little bit.

“I thought we did that much better in the second half and I thought we were fully deserving of the goal when we scored it.”
