David Flitcroft describes potential Swindon Town signing Kaiyne Woolery as a "fantastic player"

Swindon Town boss David Flitcroft has said that Wigan Athletic striker Kaiyne Woolery is a “fantastic” talent, but he was reluctant to discuss finer details on a potential deal, out of respect to Wigan.

Woolery is a 22-year-old forward who can also be deployed as a winger, which could prove useful in either the 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system boss Flitcroft has been testing in pre-season this summer.

The current Wigan player is wanted by Town on a loan deal, most likely on a season-long basis, but Woolery is also desired by Forest Green, who he was on loan at last campaign.

While at Forest Green, Woolery scored four goals in 13 matches during the regular season, and he scored a further two in the National League Play-off Final, which Forest Green won 3-1 against Tranmere to secure promotion to the Football League.

Speaking to BBC Wiltshire, Flitcroft said of Woolery:

“Kaiyne’s a fantastic player, (he’s) lightning quick and he’s currently Wigan’s player.

“I’ve got too much respect for (Wigan boss) Paul Cook and David Sharpe, the owner of Wigan, to comment on that because he’s Wigan’s player, but again he’s someone who’s a fantastic player.”

Should Woolery sign for Swindon, he would become the fourth ‘senior’ striker at the club, adding to Luke Norris, Paul Mullin and Harry Smith, who is also on loan, from Millwall.

Scott Twine and Jordan Young can also be used as strikers; however, this will only be Twine’s first year as a professional and Young’s second.
