David Flitcroft and Lee Power are going through plans for Swindon Town recruitment in January

Chairman Lee Power and manager David Flitcroft have both provided updates on how Swindon Town plan to operate in the January transfer window.

Swindon are in desperate need of improvement after a humiliating 5-0 defeat at home to top-of-the-table Luton Town on Boxing Day means the Robins have now lost six of their last seven matches in all competitions.

It has already been a season of upheaval at the County Ground as a new manager, Flitcroft, was appointed in the summer and the ex-Barnsley and Bury boss brought 17 new players to Swindon as part of a pre-season rebuild of the squad.

The season is not going well so far though and, despite pre-season expectations of promotion from both Power and Flitcroft, Swindon are 11th, three points off the play-offs, five adrift of the automatic promotion places and a whopping 16 behind leaders Luton.

Despite the number of incomings surpassing double figures already this season, Power and Flitcroft both want fresh blood in the month-long winter window.

Speaking to the BBC ahead of kick-off, Power said: "I've spoken to the manager, we've got plans for [January], he [Flitcroft] is getting a list together and things will start to be put into place the first week of January.

"There's a list of people there and a few players that need to be gone from here so I think there'll be two or three new faces.

"I think midfield we're very light in the middle of the park and defensively we're maybe looking for a bit of cover so that's what the manager's asked for, he's got his targets and we're starting to work on them and things should be a bit more concrete as we go along.

"He's aware of the players that he wants, if we can get them then I'll see if I can do my best like we have done this season.

"We've gone all in really to try and get out the league, we're only halfway and we've got to try and continue with that."

Flitcroft, not for the first time, admitted that a few will be leaving the club in the new year as his patience wears thin, but they will be replaced.

"We'll get in tomorrow and make sure we re-group and make sure we decide who's definitely coming forward on the journey and who's not.

"I think some players really have found it difficult to accept playing at home and the demand from a group of supporters that want better and expect better. We'll be searching for them players than can do that.

"We can start tomorrow, then as get towards January, we can get some solutions then."

Swindon will have room for one more loan player at least after Millwall striker Harry Smith had his loan terminated.
