Ben Gladwin believed Swindon conceded two preventable goals in their loss to Northampton

Ben Gladwin felt that Swindon conceded two preventable goals to let their lead slip in the 2-1 defeat at home against Northampton. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to the midfielder after the match.

Jonny Williams had given Swindon a lead in the second half, but goals from Ben Fox and Mitch Pinnock denied Swindon extending their unbeaten start to the season at the County Ground.

Gladwin said that Swindon believed they had managed to defend the Cobblers for the most part but gave up sloppy goals to go away disappointed.

He said: “I think being in a game with a good team at the level, obviously being in the lead, you don't expect to go on to lose the game.

“They were definitely two goals that we wouldn't like to concede as it's not like they've carved us open and there were probably things we could have done about it, but we'll go on and learn from that on Monday and look to put it right Tuesday.

“From their attacking point of view they are very organised and they know exactly what they're trying to do in a very direct fashion that they're good at.

“You have to be a bit nasty and win first balls and second balls and then the conditions didn't really help with that, it was quite windy and then the sun being very low being aggressive becomes more difficult.”

Northampton was the first game of a tricky October for Swindon and Gladwin felt that this performance showed them that they need not be afraid of any team in League Two.

Ben Gladwin said: “It's going to be a big test, which we said that we can't be afraid of anyone in this league.

“We've just gone toe to toe with a team that I imagine are top now or second at least, so strangely enough, I think you have to take the positives from that performance and it should reaffirm to all the young lads again that they should be at this level competing at the top of league.

“We want to be competing at the top of the league, so we have to be able to face all kinds of teams and styles.

“We're a young group, so you're going to get ups and downs for sure that's going to happen, so we will have to expect that but we have to regroup and go again Tuesday.”
