Muskwe: Moving to Swindon was correct career move

ADMIRAL MUSKWE has insisted that moving to League Two leaders Swindon Town was the right step in his career, admitting that he has enjoyed his time at SN1 so far as the Robins chase promotion and the league title. Total Sport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to the on-loan Leicester City attacker earlier today.

Joining on a short-term loan until the end of the season, Admiral Muskwe has endured a tentative start to his Swindon Town career but believes a move into men's professional football was the best choice for his development.

“It’s good, I’m enjoying every minute of it and I’m just looking forward to the future and the rest of the games,” said Muskwe.

“It’s different from what I’ve been used to, I started the season with the Under-23s, whereas each game here you are fighting for points and is competitive.

“Here at Swindon we are fighting for promotion and trying to win the league.

“I think for my progression going out on loan was the next step for me to develop as a player,” he added.

“When Swindon came calling I couldn’t say no.

“I think being here is the best platform for me to kick-start my professional career,” he said.

At the age of 21, Muskwe’s arrival at the County Ground marks the first move of his career after being part of the Leicester City academy since the age of 9.

But despite facing tough competition for minutes at Swindon, the Zimbabwean international believes he has started to show his quality and is hoping that more minutes for Swindon will help his chances of being selected for the Zimbabwe national team.

“I think when I’ve been given the opportunity to come on I’ve done well,” Muskwe said.

“I’ve shown what I’m capable of doing and with more minutes hopefully I can show more.

“Usually I play down the centre but I can play out wide or in the hole behind the striker as the ten.

“It doesn’t really faze me, I’m more than capable of playing in those positions,” he said.

“I’ve played four games for Zimbabwe now.

“It’s a huge honour to play for your nation and playing here at Swindon will help my international football.

“At the back end of March we are playing Algeria. The manager has made contact but hopefully I’ll find out more about my selection in the coming weeks.

“It will be a very good test playing against the likes of Riyad Mahrez,” added Muskwe.

Muskwe has featured in two games for Swindon so far this season but is yet to make a first start under Richie Wellens. However, the youthful attacker admits he is happy with how he has adapted to the demands of League Two football.

“I wouldn’t say anything has caught me by surprise,” he said.

“The league is more direct and more physical than under-23s.

“Teams won’t let you just pass the ball around, everyone will get in your face when you’re on the ball.

“Coming into League Two has a bit of a negative connotation around it.

"But there are teams like us that try to play football, so the league probably isn’t given the credit it deserves,” added Muskwe.
