Abbey Stadium development could be given green light tonight

Members of the Swindon Borough Council planning committee are set for crunch talks tonight as they look to finalise redevelopment plans of Blunsdon's Abbey Stadium.

Plans for the new Abbey Stadium development could be given the green-light tonight with the new construction set to be discussed by members of Swindon Borough Council's planning committee tonight.

Stadium owners Gaming International is eager to get the re-building job underway with the greyhound dog racing and speedway facilities at the stadium well below-par.

The submitted plans will see the current Abbey Stadium demolished with a complete rebuilding job set to take place that will see the main spectator stand and other facilities moved to the other side of the track behind the back straight.

The renovation project has already passed planning permission but the design, layout, and access arrangements still need to be approved by members of the council committee which is what will be discussed at tonight's meeting.

Original stadium plans were set to be approved by the council in the autumn of last year, however concerns from the tracks neighbouring houses surrounding noise nuisance meant that more time was needed for the councils planning officers to discuss the impact of the noise pollution created from the stadium's speedway meetings.

The meeting starts at 6pm tonight at the civic offices.
