Let's Talk
Top Trends For Autumn/Winter 2018
Anyone else so excited for ankle boot weather?! Sure, the summer is nice, but hot baths, candles and the X Factor are top of my list at the moment. Along with lazy Saturday nights, I love shopping for knitwear and finding new pieces to layer in the colder months. There’s something so fun about transitioning items you already own and wearing them differently, along with buying new clothes to revamp your wardrobe.
Let’s talk about the top trends for this Autumn/Winter.
ANIMAL PRINT
Seeing leopard, zebra and tortoiseshell all over the high street at the moment? It’s a huge trend for 2018, and even if you’re not overly keen on going all-over Kat Slater, there are some ways to gradually introduce it into your outfit. I love these leopard print culottes from New Look – they’re a comfortable stretchy material with an elasticated waist, so they’re great for all-day wear. One way to wear them could be with a white t-shirt and black blazer, or keep it casual with a cosy knit. You’ll also notice my earrings have a hint of tortoiseshell in them – ideal for those who want to buy into the trend slowly.
WARM TONES
Reds, oranges, browns and yellows are key for autumn. Not only will it make that photo of you throwing leaves into the air even better, it’ll add that cosy and warm feel to your outfits. One way to do this is with your knitwear – red or mustard jumpers are great to throw on with jeans on the weekend, or with black trousers at work. The one I’m wearing here is from New Look!
ANKLE BOOTS
As I mentioned earlier, it’s SO nice to finally dig out our ankle boots. I can’t wait to not paint my toenails every couple of weeks to be honest. It’s always good to invest in a good pair of ankle boots that will take you through the winter – think real leather or suede, and a comfortable heel height (flat, or low heel). Dorothy Perkins do some great ones, or Clarks if you’re open to spending a little more.
CHECK MATE
Another trend you’ll be seeing lots of over the next few months is the classic check print. Prince of Wales, tartan, whatever you want to call it, the check print is versatile and can be worn on almost any item. One of my favourite ways to wear it is on a blazer, H&M do some great versions, along with Next. Take it to the next level with a check print coat!
70’S VIBES
Along with warm tones this season, you’ll find a lot of 70’s clothes are making a comeback. Velvet skirts, brown/camel colours, flared trousers and jeans, belt galore and bell sleeves. You won’t be able to avoid it, and you’ll find it entering your wardrobe without you even realising.
FLORALS
They’re not just for summer! Floral prints can extend to your A/W wardrobe at a flash. One way to try it is to find your floral summer dresses and pop a long-sleeve top underneath it – why buy new items when you can just layer your current pieces? If you want to invest in some new floral pieces then ankle boots and floral coats are in this season.
