Popular Charity Gift-wrap Service Returns to The Brunel Shopping Centre

Prospect Hospice volunteers will once again be on hand to wrap shoppers’ presents at The Brunel shopping centre in Swindon Town Centre this Christmas.

The charity gift-wrap, which started last Saturday, 3 December, is now in its third year as has so far raised £7,750 for the charity. The Brunel will once again be donating wrapping paper and accessories needed to wrap the presents and the stall will be manned by Prospect volunteers.

Jane Stewart, Deputy Centre Manager said: “We’re very pleased to be able to continue to support the Prospect charity gift wrap.  This simple idea is raising a significant amount of money for the Swindon-based charity and also helping out shoppers at what is always a busy time for everyone.”

Prospect volunteer wrappers will now be in The Brunel Plaza (in front of Timpsons and near to Sainsbury’s) from Saturday 10 December until Christmas Eve.  On Saturdays, the stall will run from 9am to 5pm and on Sundays from 10.30am to 4.30pm.  On weekdays, the opening times are 10am to 5pm.  The stall will close at 4pm on Christmas Eve.  There is no charge for the service but shoppers are asked to be generous with their donations and a minimum donation of £1.50 per present is suggested.

On Tuesday 13 December, players from Swindon Town Football Club will be at the gift-wrap stall to meet fans and, in return for a donation, to pose for selfies.

Amy Francombe is Community Fundraiser for Prospect Hospice.  Amy said: “We are very grateful to The Brunel Shopping Centre for offering us the opportunity to gift-wrap for shoppers throughout December for the third year running. Over the last two years, the gift-wrapping service has raised a fantastic £7,750, with last year raising almost £2K more than in 2014. We are hoping that this growing success continues and we are able to raise even more this year.

The money raised through the gift wrapping service goes a long way toward the £7.8m it costs to run the hospice each year, over £5m of which we have to raise ourselves through support from groups, organisations and individuals in the local community.”
