7 Wardrobe Essentials For Freshers Week

With freshers week fastly approaching its time to think about the best wardrobe pieces to invest in for the long days and even longer nights out, whether you’re at college or university.

Being a student means budgeting, so it’s key to think about items which will last you a long time and that you’ll be able to wear all year round, as well as wearing in different ways?

A GOOD PAIR OF SKINNY JEANS

Easy to take from day to night, a pair of skinny jeans will be your best friend for the next few years. A black pair is ideal as they’ll go with everything you wear, but you want to make sure you’ve got some that are good quality and comfortable to move in. You could opt for some jeggings if you wanted something with a bit of stretch.

A TRENCH COAT

Like the red one I’m wearing here, a lightweight trench can keep you dry and can also be layered well with simple t-shirts and jumpers when it’s a little cooler. Instead of going for classic black, think of looking for bright colours to make you stand out on your walks into class. M&S do some great ones!

SHOES YOU CAN WALK IN ALL DAY

When you start university or college you’ll be surprised how many steps you’ll get in. Make sure you’ve got some shoes or boots with comfortable, soft soles and that you can walk in all day. A good pair of trainers wouldn’t go amiss but a lot of good quality ankle boots have special comfort soles too!

SLOGAN TEES

Nail those classic outfit combinations by pairing a slogan tee with your denim. They don’t have to be too over-the-top if it’s not your vibe, but some embroidered words can look really cute on a t-shirt. You can find great ones in River Island or New Look.

… AND A NICE TOP

Get ready to not have any idea what ‘jeans and a nice top’ means. Nobody knows. However, try and find more stylish tops to pair with your denim for nights out – think of frilled cami’s and glittery details, along with some statement earrings to up-do your look. The blouse I’m wearing here is from Topshop and the silky material is lush to wear day or night!

A LITTLE BLACK DRESS... OR 5

A button-up black dress will be your go-to for daytime wear with tights, boots and a cardigan, or at night with heels and a clutch bag. It wouldn’t hurt if you had more than one LBD, but make sure you get one that suits both occasions.

A GOOD SIZED BAG

It’s going to be book central, so get yourself a decent sized bag that’s comfortable to carry. You can buy decent rucksacks in all high street stores at the moment but head down to Accessorize for the most choice. If rucksacks aren’t your thing, a big tote bag will do the trick, and like I said before with coloured coats, find a coloured bag that’ll make your class a little more exciting.
