All the Small Home Problems You Can Solve With DIY

It is important that homeowners know how to manage a few of the more common problems that happen around the house so that you do not have to rely on some-one else or pay to have something fixed that you could easily do yourself. This post will look at a few of the more common issues around the home and what their DIY solutions are.

Squeaky Doors

Is there anything more frustrating in the home than a squeaky door? This is one of those common problems that homeowners always plan to do something about but never get round to as it is not something that is urgent. Often, this is some-thing that you can fix in just a few minutes by lubricating the hinges. If you do not have any WD-40 or a similar product, you might find that mayonnaise does the trick!

Draughts

Draughts are a common issue, especially in older homes, and one that should not be ignored. When you have draughts, you will be losing energy and this will cost you more on your energy bill while also making it harder to keep the home at a comfortable temperature. You can use decorator’s caulk to seal draughts, which should help you to save money, reduce your environmental impact and keep the cold wind out on a chilly day.

Low Shower Water Pressure

You can’t beat a nice hot shower, but it is not very invigorating when the water pressure drops. Sometimes this is a more serious issue, but often you will find that it is simply a case of limescale blocking the holes that the water comes out of on your shower head. Fortunately, there is a quick and easy fix by using a descal-ing solution (white spirit vinegar is a good alternative). You will want to remove the showerhead and place this in a bowl with your solution for an hour or so - re-member to soak it in warm soapy water afterwards to remove the solution!

Squeaky Stairs & Floorboards

Squeaky stairs and floorboards are another irritating household problem, espe-cially when trying to walk around at night and not wake anyone. Instead of having to learn the exact spots to avoid, you can fix this problem once and for all by tapping shims into any gaps between the treads and stringers and then using glue to seal them.

As a homeowner, it is important to have basic DIY knowledge so that you can keep your house in good condition without having to resort to asking someone for help or hiring someone.
