Luke Norris will "absolutely" get goals in Swindon Town's system, says David Flitcroft

Manager David Flitcroft is certain that Luke Norris can continue his early-season form in front of goal.

Norris, 24, had a difficult first season at Swindon Town as he scored just six goals in 46 games in all competitions as the Robins were relegated from League One, but the ex-Gillingham forward has a new lease of life under new boss Flitcroft in League Two.

A brace at the weekend means he has already levelled his tally from the entirety of last season and, in addition to that, he has registered three assists, one of which came on Saturday in the 3-2 victory over Stevenage.

Unsurprisingly, Flitcroft was full of praise for his striker who was awarded the man-of-the-match award.

"I'm delighted with (the) players from last season who've done super well. Nozza now has six goals, he's having a fantastic season," he began.

"To get the man-of-the-match and to hear the supporters willing him on to do well. He's one of our own and I'm delighted for Noz, I thought he was outstanding today.

"Luke Norris is about goals, it's what he does. He's been creating a lot of chances in training, he's been executing well in training, I said a few weeks ago it's not about his confidence, it's about doing the right thing all the time and Nozza is and he has been since I walked in from day one.

"He does beat himself up at times, he wants to do so well for this group, but again he came off the pitch with two goals."

Norris, although traditionally a target man, does have the ability to be Town's main goalscorer, Flitcroft says, but the Town gaffer insists he needs to focus on the bread and butter on his hold-up play first and foremost.

"Well, you look at Harry Kane. Harry Kane's a target man but he scores plus-30 goals, so we're not going to set any targets for Luke Norris, but what we're going to do is keep breaking them down bit-by-bit.

"He's gone over his first target of five goals, which I've set him, now we go onto the next set. Do I think he'll score goals playing in this system? Absolutely, but only if he focuses on his hold-up play.

"If his hold-up play phase one is good, he'll get chances in phase two, that's what I do know, so he's in a good place and we've got a fantastic striker at the football club."
