The Regeneration of Union Square is Almost Complete

A £6.2m housing scheme which will bring 45 modern homes to the centre of Swindon is close to completion.

Kimmerfield Court (formerly Union Square) is being developed by housing group GreenSquare in partnership with Swindon Borough Council and will provide a mixture of one and two-bedroom flats.

The accommodation, which is part of Muse’s new Kimmerfields development close to Fleming Way, has been earmarked for those over the age of 55 in a bid to provide another housing option for people living in Swindon.

A number of the properties have already been allocated, but there are some two-bedroom flats still available for social rent via the council’s Home Bid website. However, the deadline to register an interest in the properties closes at midnight tomorrow (13 August) night.

The homes are built to a very high standard and will meet level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The homes will be heated by a communal gas boiler and usage is monitored on an individual apartment basis. There are also solar panels on the roof of the building, which will provide energy for the communal lighting.

Cllr Richard Hurley, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Protection, Housing and Streetsmart (Delivery), said: “Kimmerfield Court offers some much-needed social housing in the centre of Swindon and will provide modern accommodation at an affordable cost.

“I am really pleased we have been able to add the new flats to our choice based letting system with the help of GreenSquare and I look forward to the official opening later this year.”

Frances Geary, GreenSquare’s Development Project Manager added: “This has been an exciting project to work on and it is great to see it all coming together. We are currently in the process of dismantling the scaffolding at the development and we are on course for completion in September 2013.”
