Thamesdown Operations Director retires

Thamesdown Transport’s Operations Director, David Burch, has retired after nearly 36 years at the bus company.

David joined Thamesdown in 1978 as Traffic Superintendent, when the company was part of the then Thamesdown Borough Council. 

Thamesdown Transport’s Managing Director, Paul Jenkins, said: “We wish David a long and happy retirement and I, together with the Thamesdown Transport Board, am very grateful for his service to the company.

“The company has developed and changed a lot in David’s time.  In 1986 the deregulation of the bus market saw Thamesdown become a limited company at ‘arm’s length’ from the council and since then we’ve seen our business expand as Swindon has grown. As well as being an early adopter of low floor buses, in that time Thamesdown has embraced the introduction of new technology such as smartcards, real time information, CCTV, computerised scheduling and the introduction of wifi on the buses.”

Gordon Frost, the current Business Development Manager for Arriva Midlands, will be David’s successor. Gordon will take up his new post in August.
