TGt Meets ... Nick Moreton
In our latest TGt Meets, we've been speaking to Nick Moreton, Manager at David Lloyd, about all things business.
Who has had the greatest impact on you as a business leader? Perhaps a mentor or a family member?
I am going to have to say an old CEO of mine when I was at Cannons Health & Fitness, Arnu Misra. He was, for want of a better expression a bit of a ‘maverick’. You never knew what you were going to get from him, but he was ruthless and knew exactly how to make the business at the time, he was at the helm a success. He also made time for me during a difficult period and it is something I will never forget.
What are your professional goals?
Be happy, be a success and do right for people. Whether it is your team or customers. I have always wanted to be the type of leader that people want to do well for.
Where is your favourite place to eat in Swindon?
I am going to be honest, I have not eaten out too much in Swindon as I don’t live in the area. However, I have had nothing but positive experiences at The Old Bank in Old Town.
What do you think attracts business people to Swindon?
Certainly not the traffic at the moment! For me, it’s the links to cities like Bristol and London, but also the personality traits of the people. I don’t know what it is, but I have always said that Swindon people are decent people and good to deal with. It helps!
Based on your own experiences, what advice would you give someone going into a leadership position?
Recruit the right people.
How do you like to spend your time off?
I enjoy movies, music and sport. I am a Wolves fan, so I am used to disappointment!
I also enjoy the odd glass of red wine.
Your phone book must be full of business contacts, but who is the most famous person in there?
Steve Coppell – Manchester United legend
What has been your greatest achievement to date?
Hopefully, being a decent Dad. My 13yr old daughter may disagree. Decent but not cool! I am sure that resonates with parents of teenagers.
