Swindon Town 4-0 Dagenham & Redbridge

Robins bounce back from derby defeat

06.03.12

Swindon Town put their derby disappointment at Oxford United behind them with a 4-0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday evening.

Second half goals from Joe Devera, Luke Rooney, and Paul Benson added to Billy Bodin’s 22nd minute opener to seal all three points for Paolo Di Canio’s side, who remain six points clear at the top of League 2.

After an edgy opening to the clash, Bodin’s close-range finish settled the nerves around The County Ground and, after Daggers striker Josh Scott was sent off on 26 minutes, Town set about clinching a crucial victory.

Centre-back Devera doubled the lead on 59 minutes, heading home a Luke Rooney corner, before Rooney himself made it 3-0 with a neat finish moments later.

With the game as good as over as a contest, it was left for Paul Benson to put the icing on the cake on 75 minutes, poking home from close range after Rooney’s shot had been well saved by Daggers ‘keeper Jon Bond.

Town now welcome promotion rivals Cheltenham Town to The County Ground this Saturday.
