Snapped: WW1 Exhibition at Steam

Wednesday the 20th of August was the grand opening of Steam's WW1 exhibition, celebrating the centenary of the Great War. TGtS was there to show our interest in this once in a lifetime event.

In celebration and commemoration of Britain's valliant efforts in the first World War a century ago, Swindon's Steam museum, arguably the UK's most extensive collection of historical locomotives, has put on exhibition showcasing the Great Western Railway's role in the war to end all wars. From munitions work, to specialist carriages, the GWR built an array of items for the war effort.  The exhibition also looks at how GWR employees were affected by war, not only the men who went to fight, but also the men and women who were left behind and continued to be employed by the company in numerous roles.  A range of never seen before material and objects will be on display.

The exhibition is open to the public on 22nd of August 2014 and runs to the 31st of December 2015. It is free with standard admission.
