Coronavirus: How do you keep fit in lockdown?

The Coronavirus pandemic has placed the United Kingdom on lockdown. But that doesn't mean you can't keep fit and get a workout done. Running

Whether you’re a seasoned marathon runner or a complete beginner, now is a great opportunity to get outdoors and get running! Providing you’re practicing correct social distancing, hitting the roads with your running shoes on is a brilliant way to burn those extra calories and also clear out your head. Having entered Spring, the weather is beautiful outside and with so many great areas in Swindon accessible, there are loads of short, medium, and long-running routes available to try out.

Walking

If running is a bit too intense for yourself then getting outside for a brisk walk in the sunlight is another great way to keep fit. Staying indoors all day can be hard both physically and mentally, so break your day up by heading out into the open air for a walk around Swindon. Beginner: 10x press-ups, 10x situps, 15x star jumps, 5x burpees. Repeat 3x.
Intermediate: 10x press-ups, 15x situps, 20x star jumps, 15x squat thrusts, 10x burpees. Repeat 3x.

David Lloyd - Online Fitness Classes

On March 30th, David Lloyd will be launching their brand new digital platform that will allow users to discover on-demand workouts, join in with live-streamed fitness classes, and find out great ways to keep the family entertained during Coronavirus lockdown. The app will be free to David Lloyd members and is the perfect way to get a complete gym workout from the comfort of your own home.

DB Max - #BESAFE Virtual Runs

Adjusting their business to the restrictions of Coronavirus, DB Max are launching the #BeSafe virtual run. Renowned for their all-year-round running events, duathlons, triathlons and more, the team at DB Max are giving you the chance to earn silverware whilst out running on the roads of Swindon. 

Simply go onto their website, click which distance you want to run (5k or 10k), print off your race bib and get running. Once you’ve completed your run, simply head online and enter your time. You will then relieve your chosen distance medal in the post for you to show off to all your family!

DB Max have also launched their Virtual Duathlon which will operate in the same way.

Swindon Pilates - Live Streaming Classes

At this time more than ever it is important to keep both a healthy body and healthy mind. Fortunately, the team at Swindon Pilates are helping us all to do just that! Throughout the course of the Coronavirus pandemic, Swindon Pilates will be running live-streamed pilates classes throughout the week. Zwift

About: Zwift combines fitness with video games and is certainly the most fun way to get fit that we can think of. Zwift works by entering you into virtual races with other competitors around the world that will then be projected onto your tv and can be used for either cycling or running. If you want to cycle then you will need your own bike and will have to connect it to a trainer before downloading Zwift. If you prefer to run then you will need to purchase a RunPod from Zwift that will track your speed, distance, and cadence which will then be used to power your on-screen avatar.
