Bluebell Woods in Swindon

Bluebell Woods in and around Swindon

Is there anything better than the satisfaction of seeing a carpet of blue in the Spring sun? Bluebells are only around for a few weeks in the entire year, so get out there and see them whilst you can! Swindon has plenty of woods with carpets upon carpets of bluebells, and you can walk the dog whilst admiring them. So what are you waiting for?!

1. Hagbourne Copse

Hagbourne Copse is a hidden gem, and in fact not many people know of it. Bluebell season is definitely its most popular, as it puts on the most magnificent display. You'll find yourself in bluebell heaven! It is a nature reserve, and not very big, but perfect for a quick walk with the dog as well as getting all the snaps you could ever want of bluebells! There are tracks winding in and out of the bluebells, so you can get up close and personal too. Located just off the M4 J16 in the Blagrove Industrial Estate, it's ideal. Click here for directions

2. Lydiard Park

Although Lydiard Park isn't a bluebell wood, you can find plenty of them scattered around in the woodlands within the grounds. The best place to find bluebells is over the far side of the park edged around the fields (near Lydiard Millicent) where you'll find a lovely display hidden away in the trees. Whether you're passing or you're making a special trip, it certainly won't disappoint! Click here for directions.

3. Badbury Hill

National Trust Badbury Hill is located in Coleshill, just a few miles outside of Highworth. It's a bit further afield than Hagbourne Copse, but definitely worth the visit. There is plenty of parking, lovely walking trails of all different lengths with stunning views and of course, a huge carpet of bluebells. You'll catch lots of photographers there as it really is a sight to see! Also check the National Trust website to see what's on and things to do at Badbury Hill! Click here for directions

4. West Woods

West Woods, just outside of Marlborough, is a haven for bluebells. It consists of a plantation of beech trees and is located on a former ancient woodland site. There is a good network of trails including an easy access route and it's perfect for walking the dog! Don't forget your camera because you'll be sure to want some shots of the stunning display of bluebells. Make the most of your day by enjoying a picnic on one of the many tables amongst the blissful scenery! Click here for directions

5. Siccaridge Wood

The wood is in the Frome Valley and is about half a mile west of Sapperton. It is adjacent to the Sapperton Valley and Daneway Banks nature reserves. This is semi-natural ancient woodland which is situated next to the Thames and Severn Canal. Bluebells carpet the woodland floor in spring and uncommon species hide within. So grab your camera to make sure you are ready to capture some of the beautiful species. Click here for directions
