Beach life shore is perfect at Swindon town centre’s Urban Beach Experience!
Visitors from Swindon and surrounding areas came out in force to attend the Swindon Town Centre Festival’s FREE Urban Beach Experience between 1st and 8th August.
Organised by inSwindon BID Company for the second-year, visitors and families posed for photos, dipped their toes in the sand and enjoyed everything the Urban Beach Experience had to offer including deckchairs, rock painting, music, buckets and spades, seaside peep boards and GIANT deckchairs from 10am-5pm daily in Wharf Green.
Alison Onslow who visited the event said “Great afternoon with my granddaughter at the Urban Beach. This has been such a great holiday attraction and so good that it was free. We also spent time shopping and having lunch in town which we might not have done otherwise. Brilliant. Thank you.”
An Al Fresco picnic zone was also available for visitors to enjoy food from the stalls and local eateries in the town centre sponsored by the Swindon Advertiser, who provided FREE daily newspapers for beach lovers, whilst businesses from across the town centre and Swindon joined in the fun with information and trade stands including the Wyvern Theatre, Metro Bank, Swindon and Wiltshire Pride, Swindon Dance, The Brunel Shopping Centre, Fillerz, Triple Two Coffee and Soul Shack, as well as local charities Swindon Advocacy Movement and Hjalpande Hander.
inSwindon BID CEO, Di Powell said “We are overwhelmed with the positive feedback and support for this year’s Urban Beach Experience, not only from our visitors but from local businesses and strategic partners. Hundreds of children and visitors joined us daily to take part in a range of free activity. The events we produce are so important in bringing the community together, increasing footfall and spend for our businesses and encouraging local people to love the town they live in. Our next event is the annual Student Lockdown, taking place on Monday 30th September.”
Extra daily activities took place between 11am-3pm including Sand Art workshops, Punch & Judy shows, Beach Photobooth, Beach Olympics, Fitness tasters from Buzz Gym and KISS Gym as well as a Family Beach Party.
VIP visitors included Mayor of Swindon Councillor Kevin Parry, Chief Constable Kier Pritchard and Inspector Dave Hobman who were welcomed by the BID, community and businesses. Constable Kier Pritchard tweeted “Great initiative. Spent a few valuable minutes here today as part of wider town centre patrol and community engagement. Met some great families and partner agency staff too. Well done all.”
Organised by inSwindon BID Company, the new Swindon Town Centre Festival celebrates everything on offer throughout the Summer holidays in the town centre, with over 30 FREE events planned including Wacky Wednesdays at The Brunel Shopping Centre from 11am-3pm throughout August and the Summer Garden at Regent Circus which takes place until 2nd September.
