TGt Meets... Jason Diston

We've been chatting to plumbing apprentices at Swindon College about how the scheme is great for them.

Why did you choose an Apprenticeship over university?
Because it seemed more beneficial for me.

How did you decide which Apprenticeship to do?
I looked at all of them, but Plumbing really stood out to me.

What are the benefits of doing an Apprenticeship?
It’s practical and I get to be hands-on at work.

What are you doing to develop within your role and company?
Taking on a job and study more so I can learn as much as possible.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?
Moving up to level 3 and running jobs independently with little aid from others.

How do you spend your free time?
Going out and seeing my friends, but I also study a lot and like to pre-plan for work the next day in the evenings.

What’s the hardest part about doing an Apprenticeship?
Making the right choices and concentrating at the end goal.

What has doing an Apprenticeship meant for you as a person?
I have met a lot of new people and made friends which makes my course fun. It’s also helped me grow in confidence so I can make decisions easily and learn specific skills.

What advice would you give someone making the decision to go to university or to do an Apprenticeship?
Look at the benefits of the Apprenticeship courses you’re interested in and see if they fit you and what you want to achieve.

What’s the one thing you will take away from your apprenticeship once it’s over?
Knowledge and experience I couldn’t have got at university.
