What happens in an Escape Room?

Find out what happens when your locked in an escape room experience for an hour in this blog from Incarcerated, Swindon's best escape room...

For all of our customers including the ones who have played 100’s of rooms, entering an escape room can be a daunting or wondrous experience. The amazing thing about escape rooms is that each environment or scenario is completely different, so guests do not know what to expect from it.

The main objective in an Escape Room experience, which is to escape in less than the specified time frame which is normally 60 minutes. Some newer Escape Rooms have been testing longer experiences however these lengthier time frames appeal more to experienced players.

Your team and you will be locked in your chosen scenario, team sizes vary however teams are normally up to a maximum of 6 players. Larger teams tend not to work as well, due to puzzle content becoming very vague and convoluted, this means teams tend to communicate less and leave the member of the team who does understand the task to complete it on their own. Choosing your teammates carefully is important as you will have to communicate tactics and bounce ideas off them when you get stuck.

Before you enter the experience, your team will be given a full brief about the scenario. Although it’s completely normal to just crack on with the fun and enjoy the immersive surroundings of the room, it is also crucial to concentrate on what the games host tells you. If you don’t listen you may miss vital clues or get yourself told off later when you start touching things in the room that are not to do with the experience, you may think its patronising at the time, but take it from us we have seen people pull lights out of the ceiling and attempt to put their fingers in plug sockets. (Roll eyes and sigh)…

When you’re in an Escape Room, the most important thing you have to remember you’re working as part of a team. It is also essential that you talk to each other and relay important information and findings to your teammates, something you have found may help them to make sense of the puzzle they’re trying to solve… Remember to give them this information calmly.

If you get stuck on any of the challenges your games master will be on hand to offer hints and tips, there may even be an opportunity to move on to another part of the room. Sometimes taking a small hint can push you through the room and get you back on track, we have seen teams escape with a few seconds left so a little help can few make everything slot into place and make sure you are victorious.

Our staff at Incarcerated want every team to have as much fun as possible, we want our customers to leave with a smile on their face and feel like they have come together to complete a complex challenge, this leaves them with rewarding experience. Don’t worry if you have had a couple of clues, 99% of teams need a little push every now and then which is why all games are monitored by our professional and skilled team of games masters.

An Escape Room experience is designed with team building and communication at the heart of the challenge. It is meant to be fun, perplexing and rewarding, so make you communicate and work as a team, your team is only as strong as its weakest member, take into account everything that is being said, but most importantly have fun.
