Upbeat Beatles Entertain at Vintage Pop-Up Fundraiser

Swindon Theatres hosted a vintage pop-up event in Swindon town centre on Saturday, which saw live music entertainment, a raffle and a variety of vintage goods on sale, all in aid of raising money for charity.

Members of the public were able to browse through vintage and retro-inspired clothing, accessories and memorabilia, get a vintage make-over from Vintage Victory Rollers before striking a pose in the retro-booth and sing along with The Upbeat Beatles who performed live ahead of their show at the Wyvern on 16 March.

There was also a vintage sweets pick ‘n’ mix set up by Sweets Galore and a raffle with prizes donated by local companies including the Thistle Hotel, The Plough Inn in Wanborough and The Swindonian. All proceeds raised are going to Alzheimer's Society and the Wyvern Theatre Memory Café to help support those affected by Dementia in Swindon.

The event was organised by Swindon Theatres’ Marketing and Press Officer Kate Claxton as part of their ‘Season of Vintage’ campaign which has been promoting a number of productions which fall into the vintage category, with a focus on fundraising.  The Wyvern Theatre’s Memory Cafe, sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care, provides a facility where those living with Dementia and their carers, friends and families can meet, talk and join in with activities with other people, as well as an opportunity to speak to support workers, medical practitioners, advisors etc for information and help. The café takes place monthly and is a free service.

Lucie Fowler, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society said:

“We are delighted that Swindon Theatres will be supporting Alzheimer’s Society during their Season of Vintage.
The fundraising events they have planned will help to move closer to a cure through our research while supporting those affected by dementia using our helpline, dementia advisors and community groups.  We would like to thank Swindon Wyvern Theatre for supporting Alzheimer’s Society and for helping to raise awareness of dementia in Swindon.”
