The Dos and Don'ts of Hen and Stag Planning

Prepping and planning your stag or hen party is by no means an easy task, we have been speaking to the experts at Go Hen and Stag Web to bring you the ultimate Dos and Don'ts..

Stag & hen parties, we’ve all been on them, the good, the bad and the “never again!” It all comes down to the organiser, if they get it right then you’re all in for a great weekend of adventure, laughs and photos that you hope never appear on Facebook. Get it wrong and you end up 6 to a bed, being forced to dress as milkmaids (for reasons that never were made clear) and wishing you’d stayed at home.

At Stag Web & Go Hen we’ve been organising stag and hen parties for over 12 years and there are certainly a few do’s and don’ts to build a weekend that will be remembered for all the right reasons. So here are our top-tips for planning your pre-wedding weekends.

Do – Plan ahead. Most weddings taking place during the same months so there is a definite stag & hen season when things get booked up fast. You don’t want to find yourselves in a caravan in Clacton when you were hoping for a weekend in Marbella all because you booked too late (sorry Clacton).

Don’t – Get too many people involved in the planning. Asking everyone for their opinion never goes well, you’ll be bombarded with suggestions and ultimately someone might be offended you didn’t go with their choice. Be decisive and resolute in your decision making and defer to the guest of honour for the final say.

Do – Speak to the bride or groom, this is their party after all. Yes they are busy planning a wedding which is why they have left you in charge of the hen/stag do (you can thank them for that later!). They might have a particular destination or activity in mind already which will make your task a lot easier.

Don’t – Get carried away. It’s easily done, someone comes up with a great idea “Hey what we really need are gold plated tiaras and a bucks fizz fountain!” and the next thing you know the budget starts to grow. The guests might have other financial commitments so dropping an extra £300 on the budget is not always as comfortable for everyone to share.

Do – Ask the pros. If you want someone to fix your car you call a mechanic, if the shower has a haemorrhage you call a plumber, using a stag or hen company can save you money. Because of the sheer number of parties they book they get special rates which you simply won’t get booking direct. They can also relieve you of a lot of the hassle, for example at StagWeb.co.uk and GoHen.com our payment system allows all the guests to pay separately which saves you the (sometimes awkward) hassle of chasing people for money.

Don’t – forget the bride or groom. We don’t mean don’t forget to take them; we assume they will be with you for the weekend, but don’t forget the other half of the soon-to-be-truly-weds that won’t be in your party. If the bride has strong thoughts on lap dancing or any potentially wayward pranks then it’s best to respect her concerns. Equally if the groom feels particularly strongly about his intended’s thoughts on getting tattooed then a hen party isn’t the place to add fuel to any potential fires.

You don’t want the forthcoming Mr & Mrs having their first marital barney before they’ve even tied the knot so our advice it to have fun but play nicely.

If you have any thoughts or need help with your stag or hen party then contact our team at StagWeb.co.uk & GoHen.com but most of all we hope wherever you end up you have a fantastic pre-wedding celebration weekend. And don’t forget your toothbrush!
