As many of us will be spending the next few weeks (at the least!) at home due the country being in lockdown, now's the perfect time to binge watch a few Netflix series!

If you're fed up of spring cleaning, tired of worrying, or have now baked enough to feed an army; it's time to enjoy some well-earned down time and get absorbed into a fantastic Netflix series.

These suggestions aren't all suitable for young children, but we've included some family favourites suitable for older children. There's something for everyone to enjoy on Netflix, and we're here to help you avoid the mediocre series and indulge in the best ones to watch!

Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J walker

This inspiring four-part series chronicles the real-life story of trailblazing African American entrepreneur Madam C.J. Walker who built a haircare empire that made her America's first female self-made millionaire.

She is played by Golden-Globe winning actress Octavia Spencer, who's best known for her roles in The Shack and The Help.

Viewers will find her journey from working on a cotton plantation in Louisiana to owning her own hair and beauty brand a fascinating and moving story.

The Stranger

Probably the top trending Netflix series so far this year and for good reason, this British mystery thriller is based on the book by Harlan Coben of the same title. 

Its all-star cast includes The Hobbit's Richard Armitage, Jennifer Saunders and Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Antony Head.

It follows the lives of suburban families whose secrets and lies are then made public by the appearance of a mysterious stranger. The complication and mystery makes this one of those series where 'one more episode' is never enough.

A Typical

This heartfelt, coming-of-age comedy follows Sam, a teenager on the autism spectrum, who has decided he is ready for romance.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness

This true-crime documentary series follows the life of a man called Joe Exotic, who ran a sanctuary for rescued tigers, lions and bears in Oklahoma.

He spent two decades playing the part of a local celebrity and called himself, The Tiger King.

The series focuses on the growing feud between Joe Exotic and animal activist Carole Baskin.

Viewers will witness the strange, "gay, gun-toting cowboy with a mullet" (as he refers to himself), show himself to be a more sinister character as he hires a hitman to kill Carole Baskin.

This is one binge-worthy crime-drama. Clever and intriguing, this series will have you gripped and on the edge of your seat from the onset.

Fast, funny and not for the faint-hearted - if you haven't watched this British comedy-drama yet, add it to your list now!

The plot follows a teenage boy with a sex therapist mother who teams up with a high school classmate to set up an underground sex therapy clinic at school.

Despite the premise of this show, it's suprisingly heart-warming and covers a lot of modern day issues, especially during the 2nd season. Expect to be in fits of laughter in some moments, and floods of tears the next.

Released on Netflix on January 22nd, this documentary isn't specifically about the pandemic we are currently facing, however how scientists and professionals around the world work to fight these global outbreaks year on year.

Don’t F**k with Cats

Crime documentary fan? This is one of those true-crime series which you'll find yourself thinking about all day.

Be warned, this series can be difficult to watch at times. A twisted criminal's gruesome videos drive a group of amateur online sleuths to launch a risky manhunt that brings them into a dark underworld.

Watch the online justice seekers journey as they track down a guy who posts videos of his unthinkable crimes online. Incredibly intense and horrific at points, this one's not for the faint-hearted.

Stranger Things

It's unlikely that you haven't already watched this killer series, but it's so good we couldn't leave it out!

What's the plot? In 1980s Indiana, a group of young friends witness supernatural forces and secret government exploits. As they search for answers, the children unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries. Ranked 3rd best TV show of the year on it's year of release, the series has received rave reviews from season 1 through to 3.

So if you haven't already, just watch it. You won't be disappointed.
