TGt Meets…Susan Penhaglion

Meet our latest TGt meets...Susan Penhaglion, cast of the touring murder mystery play, The Mousetrap. Take a look at what she had to say!

Name: Susan Penhaglion

1. How did you get your start in acting?

I've been involved in performing since I was very young, not professionally, but in plays at school, speech and drama exams, followed by drama school. I always wanted to be an actress.

2. What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

A few stand out. I was very lucky to work with Judi Dench in A Fine Romance. I suppose my break through role was A Bouquet of Barbed Wire. I've been working a long time in theatre, film and TV. The highlights come and go.

3. What advice would you give to people who would love to pursue the same career as you?

You have to 'want' to act more than your life. If you don't 'have' to act don't do it. And don't do it if you only want to be famous.

4. Who are your influences?

So many Judi Dench, Frank Finlay and all the talented actors I've worked with.

5. How does it feel to be well-known for your role in so many incredible films, stage productions and programmes?

I don't think about it. I'm not fond of the word 'celebrity' I didn't go to 'celebrity' lessons at drama school. My job is to entertain and I hope that's what I do

6. What qualities do other actors have that you admire?

An ability to not take themselves seriously but to take the job seriously. And to keep laughing

7. Are you excited to do a show at the Wyvern Theatre?

I love all theatres, we have so many of them in Britain, it's fantastic.

8. What can people expect from this fantastic theatre performance, The Mousetrap?

It’s a great story, a guessing game of a whodunnit and a brilliant one at that. Agatha Christie is so clever, there’s always truthful emotion in her plays. The Mousetrap is funny, tense, has great characters, brilliant plot, and it’s based on a real event – it’s chilling really. The moment the curtain goes up, I’m sure the audience think ‘Ah, we know where we are with this one’ and they relax. And the great thing is, no one knows who the murderer is. Unless you’ve been before!
