The first event takes place on Friday, 29 November, at Lydiard Park, beginning at 4.30pm outside Lydiard House Museum. Visitors can enjoy a free performance by the Aldbourne Brass Band, playing Christmas favourites against the picturesque backdrop of Lydiard House. The highlight of the evening will be the illumination of the park’s 60-metre Christmas tree. Festive treats and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the event.
The festivities continue the following day, Saturday, 30 November, with the town centre Christmas lights switch-on near The Cenotaph, starting at 3.30pm. The event will feature performances by Swindon Dance, the Salvation Army, and Rhythmix Goa, hosted by Swindon’s community radio station, Swindon 105.5. Father Christmas will also make a special appearance.
After the lights are switched on, children are invited to bring their Christmas letters and participate in a lantern parade to The Brunel Swindon, where they can post their letters to Santa.
