Snapped: The Royal Opera's 'La Traviata' at Wharf Green
On Tuesday 20th May, audiences were treated to a special screening of La Traviata when a live broadcast of the performance was beamed directly onto Swindon's Big Screen straight from the Royal Opera House.
Opera lovers and first-timers alike were encouraged to pack up a picnic and head down to Wharf Green and enjoy an evening of culture.
Described as one of Giussepe Verdi’s most passionate, moving and melodious operas, La Traviata tells the story of Violetta who gives up her glamorous (but far from respectable) lifestyle when she finds true love with a man named Alfredo. However, Alfredo’s father begs her to renounce his son, the only man who’s ever truly cared for her.
Monday night's screening will be followed by BP Big Screen relays of La bohème on 15th July, and Rigoletto on 17th September.
