FESTIVAL OF CHRISTMAS BIG LIGHT SWITCH ON TAKES PLACE TOMORROW WITH JLS STAR, ASTON MERRYGOLD!
Swindon town centre’s BIG Light Switch will launch the Festival of Christmas tomorrow from 5pm-6pm in Wharf Green.
The annual FREE event attracts up to 12,000 visitors across the day and this year will be hosted by BBC Wiltshire’s Ben Prater and Sam York, who will welcome local performers including singing duo Billy & Louie who are launching their Christmas single plus Swindon Dance and PQA Swindon who both have a special performance planned for the audience to enjoy.
Exclusive appearances will take place on stage with this year’s Wyvern Theatre Panto stars, Michelle Collins and CBeebies Chris Jarvis, who are currently in rehearsal for Sleeping Beauty which runs at the Wyvern Theatre from Saturday 7th December until Sunday 5th January 2020.
And it doesn’t end there - excitement has been brewing for the 2019 headline Aston Merrygold who will perform a 20-minite live set before the big switch on moment happens at 6pm, followed by the much-loved glittering firework* display lighting up the sky above the town centre for 10-minutes, which this year is kindly sponsored by The Brunel Shopping Centre.
JLS Fans have this morning woken to news that the supergroup of the noughties are set for a huge comeback tour according to sources – what better news just one day before Aston Merrygold arrives in Swindon town centre!
inSwindon BID Chief Executive, Di Powell said ‘Our BIG Light Switch On is a firm favourite and this year it will launch the Festival of Christmas which celebrates everything ‘Christmas’ taking place in Swindon town centre across the festive season from 16th November - 31st December. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes for months with a variety of local partners and businesses to provide activity for everyone to enjoy. I’d encourage everyone to come along tomorrow, come in early and enjoy some Christmas shopping and rest up in one our town centre’s many café, bars and restaurants.”
Other FREE activities taking place on the day for visitors to enjoy include Santa’s Grotto in the Upper Plaza at the Brunel Shopping Centre from 12noon-5:30pm. Santa will be joined by the Mayor of Swindon, Councillor Kevin Parry and making an appearance with special guests on the main stage for the official switch on moment at 6pm.
On the day Havelock Square will play host to a selection of Street Market stalls featuring Bar Cavallo who will be serving up Espresso Martini’s, hot chocolates and more. Bella Mia Pizza will be offering slices of stone baked pizza whilst Glamo Rose will be tempting visitors with their delicious cupcake creations.
Swindon & Wiltshire PRIDE are providing a range of fantastic gifts, Hill’s Funfairs are hosting traditional children’s activities, and there will be fresh hot donuts with a variety of fillings from Jones’ Catering, whilst Triple 222 Coffee are offering festive mince pies, mulled wine and Bailey’s hot chocolate at their stand for visitors to enjoy.
