REVIEW: Al Fresco Menu at Swindon Marriott Hotel
It’s always a pleasure to review the stunning Swindon Marriott Hotel, so when summer rolled around and they introduced their brand new al fresco menu – we jumped at the chance to try it out! Have a read to see how we got on…
On arrival at the Swindon Marriott Hotel, myself and my guest were greeted by two friendly staff members who asked us where we’d like to be seated. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side that day but we still wanted to enjoy the gorgeous outdoor area so we chose a table at the far end of the restaurant, located beside the huge windows looking out on to the beautiful terrace.
Our friendly waitress took our drinks order – I opted for a pink gin and lemonade whilst my beer-loving guest went for an Old Speckled Hen. He was impressed to see Old Speckled Hen on tap and commented on how cold and refreshing the ale was. My thirst-quenching drink was presented in a huge gin glass filled with fresh strawberries and ice, and it hit the spot perfectly! Thumbs up all round!
Whilst waiting for our mains, we decided to share an appetiser of bread served with butter. The bread was served generously and beautifully: bite-size as well as fresh and warm with a nice, crispy crust. With the butter swirled on top with a touch of salt, it just melted in our mouths and as you can imagine – it was gone within minutes!
For mains, I opted for the Cast Iron Burger from the Al Fresco Menu, whilst my guest went for the 280g Rump steak, accompanied with Cast Iron butter, chips, watercress and peppercorn sauce. My guest’s medium rare cooked steak was incredibly tasty and tender. The steak chips were sprinkled with thyme and sea salt and the watercress gave a lovely fresh taste in the mouth. My guest is a big lover of peppercorn sauce with his steak so this went down a treat too!
My dish was presented beautifully and full to the brim of delicious tastes. With beef, cheddar, bacon, onions, juicy tomatoes, lettuce and of course the smokey chipotle sauce, the succulent burger oozed a variety of different flavours, creating a mouth-watering taste. The smokey sauce was tangy and zesty. It came with a generous serving of skin-on fries which were deliciously crispy – just how fries should be! It’s safe to say that both of our filling meals went down a treat and didn’t leave us with much room for pudding!
Despite the main meal filling us up, we couldn’t resist having a peek at the extensive dessert menu where I went for my favourite – double chocolate brownie served with honeycomb, hot chocolate sauce and banana ice cream. My guest settled with a frothy cappuccino, which was served with a choice of sugars and sweeteners. As an avid coffee lover, I eagerly awaited his thoughts and he described it as one of the best cappuccinos he’s ever tasted! My chocolate brownie was an absolute dream. The creamy chocolate topping melted in my mouth and the fresh banana ice cream offered a delicious taste and complimented the warm brownie perfectly.
Overall, our experience at the Swindon Marriott Hotel was a fantastic one. The restaurant’s relaxing and calming atmosphere was the perfect way to wind down after a busy day. Our friendly waitress was incredibly attentive to ourselves and others dining in the restaurant, ensuring we had everything we needed and checking with us to ask how our meals were. It was a shame we couldn’t enjoy our meal in true al fresco style, however, we still thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the outdoor terrace and can only imagine how enjoyable it would be on a beautiful sunny day!
We highly recommend a visit to the Swindon Marriott Hotel this summer – their scenic garden is for sure one of the best in the area and al fresco menu offers delightful dishes which are bound to suit everyone. Book your table today!
