Rays Ice Cream Review

Rays Ice Cream Review: 'The Best Ice Cream in Swindon'

Rays Ice Cream in the heart of Old Town, Swindon is certainly not new to us – in fact we’re regulars, however we know that new flavours are being introduced all the time so when we were invited along to review their service, the shop and most importantly the ice cream, it was a no brainer!

We picked a lovely sunny Tuesday to come along to the Old Town shop, which was a very happy coincidence – although we enjoy Rays ice cream in any weather! On arrival the shop was buzzing with a couple of families enjoying an ice cream and I was welcomed with a smile by lovely Rosie.

The shop itself is a real delight – the bright yellow colours gives it such vibrance and there are tables available if you’d like to eat or drink in. All the tables are cleaned thoroughly between uses and there is hand sanitiser for customers to use if they’d like to.

Rosie was very patient with me as I scanned the amazing variety of flavours – strawberry, coffee, bubblegum, rum and raisin, peanut butter, Eton mess, rhubarb and custard, mint choc and jelly bean to name a few! After much deliberation, I opted for the Bubblegum and Strawberry Sorbet in a delicious waffle cone.

Now, although I’ve been to Rays before multiple times and have never been disappointed by any of the flavours, I’m wowed every time. I hadn’t tried either of these flavours before and it’s safe to say that they went down a real treat – the bubblegum was so flavoursome, vibrantly blue and left a really lovely taste in my mouth. The strawberry sorbet was delightful and had a really strong tang to it, and both were ice cold – perfect for a warm sunny day. All of their ice creams are very carefully homemade here in Swindon, and it certainly shows in the tasting of them!

Summer is approaching and we can firmly say that Rays Ice Cream is Swindon’s best ice cream shop without a shadow of a doubt, and being situated in Old Town with The Lawns and Town Gardens on the doorstep, it makes a great pit-stop to refuel and enjoy a cold (or warm) refreshment whilst you're out and about.
