TGtS Reviews Woman in Black

What an excellent evening at The Wyvern Theatre we at Total Guide spent last night. The production was Woman in Black, a ghost story written by Susan Hill and adapted for the stage by Stephen Mallatratt

The action unfolds with elderly Arthur Kipps approaching a young actor with a ghostly story of events which actually happened to him 30 years earlier. Kipps is hoping the young actor will help him exorcise the horrific memories he has of these past events and so the young actor decides to turn the story into a play with himself and Kipps reenacting the events.

Here the ghostly, hair raising episodes evolve. The acting was superb and the build up of terror and suspense had us on the edge of our seats and in my daughter`s case nearly jumping out of her skin. Superb sets, lighting and sound with a dark,ghostly, gothic feel. The ending poses horrific eerie questions - I`ll say no more - catch this terrific play whilst it is on tour if you can. A very deserved rousing ovation from the audience at the end of the play.

Thanks again to the Wyvern for bringing yet another superb production to Swindon.
