Pebley Beach Sponsors School's Rocky Trek to Nepal

Swindon’s Suzuki and Hyundai dealership, Pebley Beach has donated £199 to fund a schoolgirl’s charity trip to Nepal.

Cirencester Deer Park pupil Emma Perry is fundraising together with 20 of her classmates from Years 9 and 10 for a 17 day adventure to Nepal during the Easter holiday in 2014. 

Whilst there, Emma will complete a six day trek to Poon Hill and spend four days helping local school children by rebuilding and redecorating their classroom, as well as having the chance to go whitewater rafting, experience an elephant safari and other sightseeing.

Each pupil has to raise £2,199 towards the trip plus cover the cost of equipment they will need to take, such as a sleeping bag, trekking poles and backpack.

Emma said: “I’m really looking forward to the trip and have spent a lot of time fundraising.  I’ve completed a sponsored abseil in Avon Gorge and organised a concert, which over 70 people came to.  I’ve also been making candles in teacups to sell at fayres.

“Visiting Nepal will be a great experience – it will help me with my future university applications as well as show me a different perspective on life.  It will be a huge challenge but very rewarding and the sponsorship from people and businesses like Pebley Beach helps me get a step closer to my target.”

Dom Threlfall, managing director of Pebley Beach, said: “The students will be learning a number of key life skills when they’re in Nepal, including budgeting, leadership and teamwork, and so we felt it important to support this.

“Emma is very determined to raise the funds for her trip and has already devised a number of fundraising activities as well as persuading companies to donate items for the school’s Auction of Promises. 

“We’re sure she will benefit greatly from this experience and the skills she learns will help her for many years to come.”
