FORMER NEW COLLEGE STUDENT TO UNVEIL FIRST COLLECTION AT LONDON FASHION WEEK 2020

Joshua James Small previously studied Art Foundation at New College Swindon and now four years later, at the age of 23, Joshua’s first collection is going to be showcased at London Fashion Week in February 2020, at the Positive Fashion Exhibition under the British Fashion Council.

Joshua James Small was launched in 2019, with an exclusive release on HUNGER Magazine, following the designer’s graduation and completion of a BA Womenswear in the same year. He has had work featured in multiple publications including SCHON, Teeth and Dear Boy Magazine, to name a few. His work has also caught the attention of stylist Karen Clarkson, and has been worn by multiple platinum selling singer/songwriter Rita Ora.

As a designer, Joshua is someone who creates concepts that inspire escapism through complex and precise pattern cutting and design. Motivated by the end visual, he is a keen advocate of fashion printed media, and also works regularly as a freelance stylist for various heavyweight British publications.

Passionate about the long term impact of the fashion industry, he aims to produce immersive

contemporary pieces that are sustainably conscious, without aesthetic limitation. Conscious design practice is at the core of Joshua's brand, with transparency being paramount in producing a sustainable output. For this reason, all components of each garment are listed through his website at date of release. His work is created from a combination of organic fibres and ethically produced material, along with dead-stock and reclaimed fabric supplied by various companies, including frequent sponsors Swarovski and Sophie Hallette.

All garments are designed and made in England and pieces are produced on a made-to-order basis, ensuring that each garment is responsibly made, keeping in line with the brand’s sustainable design ethos.

Joshua said: “This is my first public showcase of my work and I’m extremely grateful to all involved at the British Fashion Council for this unique opportunity. Sustainability is such a key issue as we enter into this new decade, and The Positive Fashion Exhibition is a fantastic way of promoting young sustainable designers, advocating for progressive change in relation to societal attitudes towards fashion.”
