Building Your Brand

Embracing the world of social is something many either put off, or aren't confident enough to even start. With Social Media being a crucial part of our culture, it's a 'must have' resource, so we're lending you a few pointers on how to build your brand.

Be wise with your words. If you don't having anything engaging, don't say anything at all.

What you put out on your social platforms, represents the voice of your bussiness/ brand. Shout about yourselves and your services or products, but don't just ramble on for the sake of it. If you can't think of something interesting, your audience aren't going to be interested.

Get visual. A picture says a 1000 words.

In the social world, images move quicker than Solange Knowels in an elevator. Your audience are more likely to be stopped in their scrolling by an image, rather than text. Make the most of this and get creative.

Be consistent, BE BE consistent. Don't let them forget you.

We're not saying you need to act like a clingy boyfriend, but make sure your audience don't forget who you are. The social world moves faster than Usain Bolt at the Olypmics, and you don't want to get lost. Keep your platforms updated, and don't go into hibernation.

Stay true to you. Don't lose your identity by following the crowd.

Not every trend, phase, or gimmick is for you. Just because you see something everywhere doesn't mean you need to be involved. Be selective about what content you use. By all means use all the resources available to you, but don't stray too far from your brand just for the sake of it. This isn't high school, you don't need to be in with the cool kids.

Scream and Shout. There's nothing wrong with showing off.

Don't be shy. Social Media is the perfect way to publicise all your achievments. Whether it's awards, customer testimonials, or something great your team have done, let your audience know. Businesses are run by people, not robots. Don't be too Kanye and label yourselves genius' but don't be afraid to give youself a round of applause when it's deserved.

Build relationships. It's called 'Social Media' for a reason.

Granted you wouldn't walk up to a stranger and spark up a conversation (or maybe you would.) However, in the world of Twitter and Facebook, there's nothing wrong with making new friends. Be bold and make the first move, be polite and engage. You'll be surprised who you meet, and how new relationships come about.

Prepare for negativity. It's all public, people love to complain.

With new platforms, come new ways for people to 'have a pop.' It's likely that at some point, a client, ex client, or random bystander will have something negative to say.  There's no need to get your boxing gloves out, likewise don't shy away. Be proffesional and find a way put the fire out, as opposed to pouring the gasoline.

Have fun with it. It's not all board rooms, and conference calls.

While you're using Social Media as a business tool, don't forget that it doens't have to be boring. Save the spreadsheets for your internal meetings. Feel free to crack a joke, or take comical office snaps - you are only human after all and your audience will appreciate that.
