Banks BHG Director, Neil Elsden is the latest business leader to feature in our TGtS Meets... interview series.

Tell us a little bit more about your role within Banks BHG…

I am one of three Directors in the company and look after a diverse portfolio of clients.  I also manage some of the internal operations of the company.

What are the 3 main things Banks BHG can offer a business?

We are service orientated, friendly and “not what you expect an accountant to be like”.

What’s the most popular service that you offer?

The most popular in terms of the highest number would be personal Self Assessment Returns. The most popular from a client gratitude perspective is probably the bookkeeping, VAT and management accounts services where we take away the pain of keeping on top of the records and provide useful management information to the clients.

Do you have a motto or favourite motivational quote? What have I done today that scared me?

What advice would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time? Don’t be afraid to ask for help, nobody expects you to have all of the answers immediately.

What’s the biggest challenge facing business leaders today?

Managing the ever increasing bureaucracy and the constant demands on time from email and social media.

What’s been your greatest achievement to date?

In my professional life, becoming a partner in a firm at 30 and building it from 6 to 33 people.

When you’re not busy working, how do you like to spend your down time?

I enjoy running (slowly) and have a season ticket at Bath Rugby.
