TGt Meets...Sue Hudd, Curriculum Manager of The Department of Media, Production & Service Industries at Bath College - IWD Special

By Sue Hudd who is the Curriculum Manager of The Department of Media, Production and Service Industries at Bath College of Further Education.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #choosetochallenge – what would you choose to challenge when it comes to gender equality or inequality this year?

To ensure complete gender equality in all industries which I feel sadly isn’t yet the case.

Thinking of your own experience in the world of business – which inequalities, if any, have you experienced personally or witnessed around gender?

In a previous role at a different organisation it was known that there were some males earning more than females in the same role. I am thankful that this isn’t the case at my current organisation.

Have you during your career ever challenged a situation where you felt a woman (even it’s yourself) has been disadvantaged by gender?

Yes, as per my previous answer, I challenged the situation and a positive outcome was the result.

What do you think women offer in particular to the world of business?

Women can offer the same knowledge and experience as their male counter parts.

Is gender important when it comes to success?

No.

Can you name up any women in your organisation that you admire?

Laurel, our Principal who is a strong woman leading our organisation by example.

Debs, our Estates Administrator who is so efficient and organised.

Aimee, one of our Lecturers who juggles working with ‘mummy duties’ extremely well. All examples of strong women who work extremely hard in their roles within college and their commitments outside of work.

Do you think women who start their own business experience more challenges than men?

Not necessarily but I have no experience of this so its difficult for me to comment.

What do you think about the gender pay gap?

Unfair. Unfortunately times have not moved on as we would like or expect in this day and age

What do you think about the International Women’s Day movement?

It's good to recognise that there is still a gender pay gap and to bring more awareness and understanding to the fact that this should change.
