Legal Experts to help Digital Businesses go full STEAM Ahead

Solicitors at leading commercial law firm Thrings will be offering free specialist legal advice to start-ups, growing businesses, SMEs and entrepreneurs operating in the digital arena at this year’s Business Show Swindon.

Senior corporate partner John Davies will join intellectual property, IT law and data protection expert Graeme Fearon and Kate Westbrook, who specialises in Cloud-based contracts, e-commerce and software service contracts, at the Business West event which takes place at STEAM – the Museum of the Great Western Railway – in Swindon on 23 April.

Delegates visiting Thrings on stand 45 will be able to sign up for a free consultation with one of the firm’s partners in the new drop-in Click and Connect Lounge at STEAM to discuss the legal issues businesses should consider as part of building a robust digital strategy.

Thrings’ experts are expected to cover a range of digital issues, including navigating the legalities of advertising and selling products or services online, solutions that put businesses into the Cloud, data protection, contracts with software service providers and compliance with e-commerce law.

Sponsored by Thrings and HSBC, the Click and Connect Lounge will also provide the venue for visitors to plug in and charge their electronic devices, hold informal meetings, network, blog and tweet while enjoying a complimentary drink.

Graeme Fearon said: “The digital legal landscape is constantly evolving and currently the big drivers are cybersecurity and data protection. With the increasing prevalence of mobile access and the emergence of the long-heralded “Internet of Things”, the inadequacies of current digital laws mean it is now more important than ever for organisations in Wiltshire to show best practice.

“Many businesses are aiming to leverage greater insight into their customers’ digital journeys, but they need to balance this with regulatory compliance and also with reassuring the public about how their digital information is being used.”

More than 1,000 visitors and 80 exhibitors are expected to attend Business Show Swindon – now in its fifth year – which will feature an inspirational keynote speech from broadcaster, explorer and marine biologist, Monty Halls.

The event will also offer visitors the opportunity to attend free seminars on a range of topic digital-related issues. This will include advice for SMEs on finding, attracting and retaining quality, happy staff from self-proclaimed ‘employer branding man’ Mark Bevans, and Ben Simmonds from digital design agency cxpartners discussing how to convert more customers using psychology.
