AS THE CLOCKS GO BACK, LEADING HEATING AND PLUMBING COMPANY OFFERS WINTER TIPS

WITH clocks going back this weekend, John and Debbie Williams have urged families across Wiltshire & Bath to check their heating systems before winter really sets in.

As the nights are now drawing in and the weather turns damper and colder, firms like John Williams Heating Services become very busy supporting people with faulty heating systems, burst pipes and other heating and plumbing nasties.

“There are simple things that people can do in their own homes to check their heating systems are in good working order or to be more energy efficient and keep their bills as low as possible,” Debbie said.

“Turn your heating on now to test it, if you haven’t already, so that  you can seek help from professionals if there’s an issue. Leaving it until our busiest time of year can mean you’ll have to wait days or even weeks for a professional to visit you.”

John Williams Heating Services is based in Chippenham and its team operates all over Wiltshire, Bath & Somerset.

They also have seven tips to help Wiltshire families be more efficient over the 2020 winter, especially with more of us staying at home and working from home.

  • Don’t just leave heating on all day if it’s not needed – use a thermostat to set timings which work for your situation.
  • Don’t leave laptop or phone chargers plugged in when not being used as this wastes energy – at least £30 a year according to the Energy Saving Trust and it can also be a fire hazard.
  • Remember smart meters don’t save you money, if you don’t take action, notice what they are telling you about your energy usage and make changes in your behaviour, you won’t save a penny.
  • It’s much cheaper to have an energy efficient central heating system with radiators than to use electric heaters in winter – people on low income can sometimes access support with making the switch.
  • Closing doors to rooms keeps heat in and can reduce how long heating needs to be kept on.
  • Avoid leaving lights on and appliances on standby as this does use energy and can push up your bills. Again it can be a fire hazard too. Appliances can be faulty and that fault may not be obvious.
  • Do leave your heating on a very low setting (around ten to 12 degrees) if you are going away for a few days to avoid frozen pipes which can be very expensive to fix.

John and Debbie are well known as the founders of John Williams Heating Services, based on the Bumpers Farm Industrial Estate. The company is a Worcester accredited installer, Gas Safe registered and a member of Oftec, the trade association monitoring best practice in oil heating installation and repair. They also offer service plans to help spread the cost of maintaining and servicing oil and gas central heating systems. To find out more visit https://jwheating.co.uk
