Your Total Guide To Business

Bowman House (Business Sponsor)

My Back To Business Strategy

By Janet Shreeve, Head of Live-in Service Development for Noble Live in Care. We provide a live0in care service to clients throughout England allowing people to remain as independent as possible in their own homes.

Summarise how Covid-19 has affected you?

Covid-19 has affected our business in quite a varied way.  We have been extremely busy as more clients and their relatives have wanted care to be delivered at home rather than going into a care home.

We have been able to start clients albeit without face to face visits which has not been ideal.

Our biggest challenge has been PPE as we have had to deliver it ourselves as normal deliveries have not been able to happen as well as the challenge of obtaining PPE at highly inflated prices.

What has been your plan to continue?

We plan to promote the advantages of live-in care to GPSs, CCGs and hospital discharge teams as we are able to provide a person centred care service, tailored to each individual client and allow as much independence as possible for our clients.

How has business changed for you over the last few months?

We have had to work from home, deliver training courses on line and have less face to face meetings.

As lockdown eases what measures have you put in place to get back to business?

We have a one-way system in our office with staff working more than 2 metres apart.   Any team member is able to work from home if they wish to.

What has been the most challenging aspect of all of this?

Our training has been the most challenging as we need to deliver first aid and moving and positioning in a classroom situation.  This means that our trainer will have to visit all new carers in person which is both time consuming and expensive.

What has been the most positive aspect?

The amazing carers who have remained with clients since lockdown without complaining.  Clients and their next of kin  have been fantastically supportive to the carers and I cannot thank them enough.  We have had no Covid cases among clients or carers.

Has it made you consider how you feel about other businesses/suppliers/customers/clients for good or otherwise?

Yes I feel that we are working much more closely with other care providers for break covers and helping and supporting one another in positive way.  Everyone we work with has the same ethic to provide the best quality care for our clients.

How important is this phrase to you – ‘buy local, supply local’?

Absolutely this is important as we have had local businesses delivery food supplies to clients and carers to make sure that the most vulnerable people had their requirements.

What are your top tips at this time?

1. Makes sure you thank and appreciate your staff regularly

2. Be prepared to listen to people’s concerns and worries – giving them time to talk and provide support as necessary.

3. In an industry that is highly regulated look for solutions to problems that provide the service but perhaps in a different way.

Your parting thought?

I realise I work with the most fantastic group of people and probably didn’t realise how lucky I am.
