Luke Williams "will give his very, very best" if still in the Swindon Town job next season

Swindon Town head coach Luke Williams has said he will try his utmost to get the club back in League One, if he is kept on for next season.

Swindon Town were officially relegated to League Two after a 2-1 defeat at home to Scunthorpe United at the County Ground on Saturday afternoon, for the first time since 2011.

Williams, who has just under four years of a five-year deal still to run, said he is happy to remain at the club, despite Swindon's relegation.

"If people want me to work here then I will give my very, very best.

"This club has been a huge part of my life. For the four years I've been here, some of the most incredible things and changes in my life have come about during this period, working for this wonderful club.

"I live in the middle of the town that is now my home."

During the 90 minutes, Williams and his coaching staff were subject to fan vitriol before the supporters were escorted away by stewards.

"People came to the dugout to try to swear at me or hit me or whatever. I understand. I'm not a child, I'm not a baby, I'm certainly not as weak as they are, but I understand.

"I think they can express it differently, but I'm working for the football club with everything I've got. It's my life, I love it.

"Even the people that come to swear at me, or throw things, or whatever they want to do, I would love to be able to sit with them and explain every single decision I make. They can challenge me all day long, but they would learn that I've done every single thing that I possibly can that I believed was correct.

"I thought about every single formation, every sub, every tactic, every training session, every meeting with a player, every video session, everything was considered and I think that people know you're giving everything you can, then they will respect you more.

"But they don't know that and they judge me on results and I understand that."
