Total Guide to Fashion: S/S 2012 for Women
As summer is fast approaching and we are now entering into the new fashion season, its time to depart from our beloved fur coats and get our sunnies out (we hope). Kate Jefferies from Your Collective gave us the low-down on what to expect.
The SS12 catwalks seem to be leaving behind all the androgynous trends and bringing us much brighter, fresher and prettier looks! So here are some trends to watch out for in the upcoming months and pieces you can pick up on Swindons high street.
Complete & Clashing Print
The SS12 catwalks provided us with many types of complete and clashing print looks. From blooming florals, to tropical and animal prints, expect to see the high street filled with print this season! Look to designer Mary Katrantzou for inspiration or channel kaleidoscopes/90’s redux/Versace prints into your look. Rock this trend head to toe in print and if your brave enough mix up your prints and patterns. If not, opt for a singular piece with other basic items. A decorative bomber jacket or of silk print trousers with a simple tee would be bang on trend.
Pastel and faded colours are huge this season, already making an early appearance in most high street retailers. Pale lilacs, egg shell blue, mint greens, lemon yellows and peachy pinks or any other chalky or soft colours that resemble sorbet sweets. Wear this look head to toe or tone down with simple neutral pieces.
As well as this soft approach fierce colour is still apparent on catwalks, with block colouring still on trend. Mostly seeing bright yellows and oranges look to Nicole Fahri’s catwalk for inspiration.
Also we are seeing no colour, sporting looks completely head to toe in white, this look has been
seen on multiple SS shows. Worried that head to toe white could be quite high-maintenance opt for a standout white piece such as H&M’s white leather gilet £99.99.
With London 2012 Olympics fast approaching even the fashion world has jumped on the bandwagon and caught on to the Olympic fever! Alexander Wang, Acne, Isabel Marant, Rag & Bone, Phillip Lim and Stella McCartney all saw strong sporting features in their collections. Seeing minimal silhouettes, luxe materials and simple block colour the catwalk is defiantly making sporty sexy this season! This is an easily wearable style, athletic crop tops, racer back dresses, jerseys tees, silky joggers, duffel bags with perforated fabrics, varsity jackets and the wedge high top trainer, seen on the feet of many at the recent fashion weeks.
A look carrying over from previous seasons is alluring reflecting metallics, but this time its more shiny and dazzling than ever. From Topshops Unique range adopting the futuristic space age approach, to Chanel’s mermaid, underwater ocean extravaganza featuring Florence and the Machine materialising from a giant sea shell! Expect to see shimmers all round; think gold, sliver and ice blue channeling your inner mermaid!
