Swindon175 is very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cornwall will be coming to Swindon to officially name ‘Sir Daniel Gooch Place’ which is located at the front of Swindon Railway Station

The ceremony, at 11:00 on Thursday 20th October, will see Her Royal Highness unveil a specially designed nameplate honouring the man who is regarded as the father of New Swindon. His Worship the Mayor of Swindon – Cllr Eric Shaw, accompanied by civic leaders from across the town, will be there to welcome The Duchess, and pupils from Robert Le Kyng Primary School will present a posy of flowers.

Swindon175 Project ManagerCaroline Black said: “We are thrilled and honoured that the Duchess of Cornwall will be attending one of the highlights of the Swindon175 year. We wanted to give Sir Daniel Gooch the recognition he deserved and what better place to do this but at the gateway to the town. For The Duchess of Cornwall to accept our invitation is absolutely wonderful. Swindon has so much to be proud, and for Her Royal Highness to share this important day is testament to that and a fantastic legacy for the town and the man who put us firmly on the map.”

Clarence House will be issuing an operational note with further details and the media facilities available. For further information please contact: [email protected]   direct dial: 020 7024 2113
